Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch forced to delay vow renewal due to World Cup final

Abbey Clancy has revealed that she was forced to push back her vow renewal with Peter Crouch, after it clashed with the World Cup final.

The model and presenter, 37, married the former England football player player, 42, in 2011 and had been planning to have a vow renewal for their tenth anniversary – but it had to be moved due to the sporting event.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday (4 March), Abbey revealed that the couple’s vows were first postponed due to the pandemic and later rescheduled to avoid clashing with the World Cup final last year.

“It was supposed to be on a certain day but it was the World Cup final,” she said.

“So he said ‘I’m not marrying you again on the day of the World Cup final’. So we had to change the day.”

Abbey shares four children with husband Peter: Sophia, 11, Liberty, seven, Jonny, five, and Jack, three.

They finally managed to renew their vows during a sunset ceremony in the Maldives late last year.

Abbey shared: “We wanted to renew our vows at 10 years but we were in lockdown.

“The kids were there. We didn’t have any kids at our first wedding so it was nice for them to be involved.”

Peter added: “After 10 years, I wanted to do something special because she puts up with us and the kids.

“She runs the household so I wanted to do something.”

The couple have recently joined forces for their own podcast, The Therapy Crouch, where they open up on some of the highs and lows of their relationship and also offer advice to listeners.

Revealing how the podcast came about, Crouch, who also presents sports show That Peter Crouch Podcast, said: “I’ve got a podcast that I absolutely love doing but that was obviously talking about football.

“For me and Ab to do one together, it was something we can do at home and I think everyone sees Ab modelling or in pictures and maybe have misconceptions – it’s easy to judge someone by a couple of pictures.

“I think when you hear Ab speak, she’s incredibly funny, she’s warm and our dynamic is nice. It seems to have gone quite well so we’re pleased.”

One episode of the couple's popular podcast saw Abbey reveal she had never bought a drink before her first date with her now-husband.

The pair first started dating in 2005 after meeting at a birthday party in Liverpool in the bar underneath the restaurant where Abbey was working as a waitress.

Their first date saw the couple head to an “old man’s pub” as Peter, who was then playing for Liverpool and England, wanted to go somewhere low-key and avoid being recognised.

Peter bought their first drink and Abbey purchased the second, but having never bought a drink before she says she was “scared” that the £7 in her pocket wouldn’t be enough for two.

"I think you had a bit of an ulterior motive because when we got into the pub," Abbey teases. "Pete was like: ‘That is my bedroom window there.’

"I was thinking: ‘Hang on a minute, does he think he is going to get me p****d and take me back to his flat?

"Because that is not happening whatsoever," she laughed.
