Ben Shephard left with no doubt Piers Morgan will return to GMB after Ofcom ruling

Ben Shephard, 52, reckoned his former co-star Piers Morgan will return to Good Morning Britain after Ofcom ruled in his favour earlier this month. The TV regulator launched an investigation that was triggered by 50,000 complaints from viewers including Meghan Markle, which eventually saw the controversial presenter quit the ITV show in March.

He sparked fury after stating he didn’t believe the Duchess of Sussex was refused help from the Royal Family when she said she’d suffered from suicidal thoughts, an admission that came to light during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After speaking his thoughts, he was “told to apologise or leave” and subsequently quit the show days later.

His shock departure was a blow for his colleagues on the show, who all voiced their sympathies that he would be leaving.

But now Ben, who usually hosts the show alongside Kate Garraway and Susanna Reid, admitted he has “no doubt” Piers will make a comeback someday.

Speaking to The Mirror at the TRIC Awards on Wednesday night, Ben confessed: “I don’t doubt at some point Piers will make a reappearance.”

The show’s showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold, also joked: “I hope he comes and picks up his picture of the Dalai Lama, he’s left that in my dressing room!”

The ceremony was a successful night for Piers, who took home the gong for News Presenter.

And while Ben believes he will be back in his rightful place on the GMB panel soon, he couldn’t help but take a cheeky swipe at his former co-star in the process.

Ahead of presenting the award to his pal, Ben took to the microphone to read aloud the nominations.

“I had such faith in TRIC,” the Tipping Point host began.

“Until you voted Piers as your winner.”

His jibe received ripples of laughter from the crowd.

The light-hearted joke didn’t cut too deep it seems, as Piers continued to gush over his GMB colleague.

Chatting with, he was full of praise for Ben, saying: “He’s a great guy.

“We spent five years working together and only ever spent two days in the studio together in five years.

“We never saw each other. We only ever saw each other at things like this because we never worked together.”

He went on: “I was all for doing International Men’s Day and thought we should have presented together, but they never let me do it.

“It would have been him virtue signalling to all the feminists,” Ben giggled.

“And me, aggravating him!”

Their co-star Kate, also won at the annual ceremony, where she was awarded the TRIC Special Award for her emotional journey following her husband Derek Draper’s battle with Covid.
