Carol Kirkwood has remained relatively tight-lipped about her relationship status but recently revealed that she is currently in a relationship with a mystery boyfriend. The BBC Breakfast presenter addressed her marriage ending as the weather forecaster admitted she was happy to remain single.
The 59-year-old parted ways from her husband of 18 years, Jimmy Kirkwood, back in 2008.
The meteorologist, who was married to the businessman for almost two decades, has said that she found single life liberating following their divorce.
Carol has since opened up about dating after the former couple’s separation and revealed she did have boyfriends before meeting her current partner.
Speaking in a recent interview, the BBC Breakfast favourite gave a rare insight into her love life.
“I didn’t do any online dating at all. I was quite happy being single,” Carol explained.
“I met people either through friends or work or other functions.”
She continued to Irish Times: “I only had a couple of boyfriends after I got divorced.
“Seems strange calling them ‘boyfriends’ at my age. But I was never looking for anybody, because I was content and enjoying my life as it was.”
The small-screen star has since revealed that she met her current boyfriend at a party and the pair have been inseparable ever since.
Carol said her secret romance with her “handsome” boyfriend in a new interview was the “best thing that’s ever happened to me”.
Speaking with Prima Magazine, the weather presenter admitted she is extremely happy but isn’t sure whether she is ready to remarry anytime soon.
“I don’t want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he’s always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well,” she revealed.

“He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses.”
Clearly smitten with her new man, Carol added: “He is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt.”
The BBC star is often cited as the nation’s favourite weather presenter, with her charming and warm style a hit with TV viewers.
She has been part of the BBC Breakfast team since 1999, and ever since has become a key member of the news team, which has become the UK’s most watched morning show.
But, in 2015, Carol admitted that as a result of her fame she has been on the receiving end of fan mail – and some messages were more X-rated than she would have hoped for.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, she said: “I’ve had so many of them over the years I’m almost immune to it.
“It all comes into the office and goes to the secretary.”
Alongside the bombardment of letters she gets, Carol also said her Twitter inbox was full of fruity messages from admirers.
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
