This Morning were crowned winners of Best Daytime show for the 18th time at the National Television Awards last week. Accepting the award, regular presenters Holly Willoughby, 40, and Phillip Schofield, 59, thanked the team and fans for voting for them. The duo were joined on stage by hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, both 61, but the pair seemingly didn’t get a chance to speak.

The broadcaster has since liked a series of tweets from outraged viewers about the moment.

One wrote: “People asking why @[email protected] didn’t talk at the #awards, that’s what I was thinking.

“I was waiting for them to take the mic it never happened such a #shame that’s why I voted for @thismorning I wont again.”(sic)

Eamonn also liked a tweet, which read: “Why do @EamonnHolmes or @RuthieeL never get to speak when #ThisMorning wins an award? It’s them we voted for!”

A third added: “Last night I watched the NTV Awards and saw @thismorning add another trophy to the collection.

“It wouldn’t have won if the judging had been based on today’s mind numbing programme @[email protected] you are so very missed and you so deserved to be on that stage last night x.”

On stage, Phillip did most of the talking as he excitedly accepted the gong on behalf of the team.

He said: “We are always massively, massively proud of This Morning and our family and our team.

“What was amazing for us was, every single day, because of the brilliance of ITV, we could stay on air and we could be there. We felt like we were everyone’s comfort blankets, but for all of us, you were our comfort blankets too.”

The presenter then turned to his co-host Holly, adding: “Thank you for that, thank you for being there with us and also thank you to my best friend.”

She chimed in: “This Morning is an incredible team, and we are lucky to just be one cog in the wheel.

“We just wanted to give you a normal morning, thank you for voting, it means the absolute world.”

At the time, viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Another user penned: “Let Ruth or Eamonn speak! #NTAs.”

A fifth queried if there had been a fall-out between the respective duos.

Last year, Ruth spoke to accept the award alongside Phil and Holly.

After thanking the team and viewers, the presenter handed the mic over to Ruth and said: “Eamonn and Ruth, your Fridays are fantastic, we love you so much. You should say something too, I think.”

The former Friday host stepped forward and added: “Thank you so much.

“It’s an absolute honour for us to go on that show every single day, we love it, because we know you love it, and you’re the people who vote for us.

“Thank you to all the people standing on this stage but mostly thank you to you all for watching.”
