Gemma Atkinson, 37, has taken to Instagram to gush over her “wonderful memories” while saying goodbye to a key part of her career. The actress, who is engaged to Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez, 31, has bid farewell to Hollyoaks once again after making a comeback for a “short but sweet” stint, in which she reprised her role as Lisa Hunter.

Prior to her brief return to the soap this year, Gemma had been away from the Channel 4 series for 16 years.

The mum-of-one took the opportunity to mark the momentous occasion by sharing a series of snaps from her time on set in view of her 1.7 million followers this week.

Gemma was pictured sitting alongside friend and co-star Kelly Condron, who plays Zara Morgan, on the stairs of her on-screen family’s home, alongside plenty of filming equipment.

The Hits Radio presenter smiled for the camera with her co-star, while a black and white photo of a tiger could be seen hanging on the wall above a table.

It wasn’t long before Gorka spotted his fiancée’s emotional Instagram post, but quickly became distracted by the idea that Gemma would struggle to resist pinching the animal-inspired artwork from the set.

Gemma penned alongside the pictures: “Short but sweet visit back to playing Lisa Hunter in @hollyoaksofficial What a trip down memory lane.

“So different, yet so familiar. 22 years ago my career started at this place, on this set, in the ‘Hunters’ house.

“Forever Grateful for the wonderful memories, and for the fact there was no social media in those days – We’d all be screwed!”

Gemma completed her post with the hashtags: “#goodtimes #memories #friendsforever.”

It wasn’t long before the star was inundated with sweet messages from fans and colleagues about her highly anticipated return to Hollyoaks.

However, Gorka was quick to poke fun at the actress, writing in the comments section: “I bet you took that tiger frame with you,” alongside two crying with laughter emojis.

Proving that the dancer knows her well, Gemma agreed, admitting in response: “@gorka_marquez You know I love a tiger picture!”

Gemma was part of the Hollyoaks cast from 2001 to 2005, before appearing in spin-off show Hollyoaks: In the City in 2006.

Her new scenes are set to air later this year.

Following her exit from Hollyoaks, Gemma played Carly Hope on ITV soap Emmerdale between 2015 and 2017.

She then went on to compete in Strictly, making it to the grand finale with her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

Gemma met her husband-to-be, Gorka, while taking part in the BBC dance show.

The couple now share their two-year-old daughter, Mia.
