Here's Why the Royal Family Is Skipping Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Tell-All Oprah Interview

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are sitting down with Oprah for a tell-all interview that sparked major royal drama before it even aired, leading many royal fans to wonder: Is the royal family watching? Is Queen Elizabeth II herself tuning in? The apparent answer, according to new royal reports that debuted Sunday night, is a firm no.

ELLE.com’s royal reporter Carolyn Durand published a story saying the Queen will not be watching Meghan and Harry’s interview, choosing not to focus on the “spectacle that has dominated the front pages of the London papers this last week.”

“The whole world is in chaos, not to mention the family with Prince Philip in the hospital, that is solely what the family is focused on,” royal sources told the outlet.

To be fair, the interview airs from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. London time, and Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip is recovering from a serious heart procedure. ELLE.com reports that other members of the royal fam are also skipping this interview, instead relying on aides and media reports to give the highlights.

While the Queen is sitting this interview viewing out, she did sit down to address the Commonwealth earlier on Sunday with a message about 2021 Commonwealth Day, where she emphasized unity.

“Stirring examples of courage, commitment, and selfless dedication to duty have been demonstrated in every Commonwealth nation and territory, notably by those working on the frontline who have been delivering healthcare and other public services in their communities,” she said.

There’s no word yet on what the Queen ultimately thinks of Meghan and Harry choosing to give a public interview about their time as working senior royals, but there are already plenty of reports about how Prince William and Kate Middleton are taking it.
