Kacey Musgraves ‘Freaking Out’ Over Emo Cover Of ‘Butterflies’

Grammy Award-winning country star Kacey Musgraves recently expressed her approval of a cover of her song, Butterflies, by emo group Hawthorne Heights.

Hawthorne Heights put an emo spin on the single, which was released alongside their cover of Billie Eilish’s “8” in a two-track album titled Dads of Sad.

“GUYS I’M FREAKING OUT <3 I just cried at the airport listening," Musgraves tweeted.

In an official statement, Hawthorne Heights frontman, J.T. Woodruff said, “The best part of music for me is reaching beyond borders and boundaries.”

Having discovered that both Musgraves and Eilish have come across their work before, they decided to blur “the lines within a strange industry and marketplace” by putting a completely unprecedented spin on current, widely-popular songs.

“Both of these are very talented artists, who represent the most current side of pop music. Both sound nothing like what we are used to writing. We thought it was a great exercise in trying to make their happy pop songs sound like sad Emo songs,” he added.
