Ben Shephard, 46, underwent surgery earlier this year after he suffered a knee injury playing football. Now the Good Morning Britain presenter has given an update on his recovery as he revealed he has been forced to pull out of charity match Soccer Aid.

Ben injured himself during a veterans’ football match earlier in the year.

This left the broadcaster with a ruptured ACL and a torn meniscus.

He ended up bed-bound before having to undergo a painful surgery.

Now the star has shared a new update on his injury as he chatted to singer Olly Murs.

The singer admitted he had been left “gutted” that the presenter wasn’t able to play.

Speaking on the Soccer Aid Stories podcast with Nigel de Jong, the pair discussed his injury.

Olly said: “Ben’s a fantastic player, we’ve actually missed him a lot around the place and in the dressing room and in the team.

“So I’m really gutted you’re not going to be doing it this year Ben.”

The GMB presenter then chimed in admitting: “Me too, me too.”

Nigel also shared how he was “gutted” to be missing Ben when taking on his first Soccer Aid as well.

He said: “I’m looking forward to going to the Soccer Aid and unfortunately Ben is not there but let him recover first, we don’t want any excuses when we link up, I want him 100 per cent fit on the pitch.”

“I have a feeling this injury might last a bit longer than was planned,” quipped Ben back.

This isn’t the first time Ben has shared updates about his recovery.

The presenter has been sharing how it’s been going during his return to GMB as well as keeping fans updated with his rehab on Instagram.

A few weeks ago, the presenter showed off his scars as he bent his knee.

He captioned the update: “This is a huge improvement in 5 weeks – scars looking a bit less angry too!”

Elsewhere, Ben has been sharing some loved up pictures with his wife Annie Shephard.

The pair recently returned from Devon where Ben poked fun at his wife drinking from a Fortnum & Mason flask while in a protective helmet.

Yesterday, the presenter shared a snap of them where he wondered why she “puts up with him”.

He posted in view of his 476,000 followers: “Not quite sure how/why she puts up with me but very glad she does!

“Hopefully this’ll make up for the grief I got for posting the hard helmet pic.”(sic)
