They’ve appeared more in love than ever since reconciling late last year.
But Zara McDermott fears she may never be able to escape her cheating past – after her boyfriend Sam Thompson was forced to hit back at trolls who couldn’t help but remind him of it.
“Zara hates when people bring up the past,” the source says. “Every time she sees a comment about the cheating, it makes her feel sad. It still hurts her to be labelled a cheat. She knows it’s hurtful for Sam too and just wishes people would let them move on.”
The negative comments appeared after Sam, 28, gushed about Zara, 23, to his 1.2 million followers on Valentine’s Day. Posting a photo of her, the Made In Chelsea star wrote, “I still wake up thinking it’s a dream. I love you.”

Sam Thompson fires back at trolls over Zara McDermott’s cheating scandal: 'People are pr**ks'
One user wrote, “Hope it stays this way,” while another added, “Nope Sam, it wasn’t a dream, she really did run off with that X Factor producer.”
Sam was quick to respond, insisting, “Some people are p***ks, and that’s the way it will always be. Instead of spouting a useless saying, it’s much more effective to just accept that some people are w****rs and move on.”
The source adds, “Zara was obviously thrilled that Sam stood up to the trolls and protected her but it’s still a low blow.
"She was at a really low ebb at that time in her life and she and Sam have since moved on. She’s gone above and beyond to win Sam back and just wishes people would let them be. She fears people will never let her forget that she cheated.”
Zara and Sam’s 16-month romance came to a shocking end in September last year when it was revealed that she had been unfaithful during her time on The X Factor.
The pair’s split was aired on Made In Chelsea, with Sam insisting he could never move past her betrayal.
After Zara pleaded for his forgiveness, the pair reconciled in November and are currently living together in his Fulham home. But our insiders claim the former Love Island star still fears the worst.
The source explains, “Zara still steps on eggshells about the whole cheating thing around Sam, who is still triggered by it all.
"She’s tasted what its like to lose him and as a result feels on edge and as though she could lose him at any time. That’s why I think she over compensates with displays of affection. She’s still terrified she could lose him.”
