Maya Jama quits BBC Radio 1 show after addressing Strictly Come Dancing rumours
Maya Jama has announced she has quit her job at BBC Radio 1 and has already hosted her final ever show.
The in-demand presenter shared the news on her Instagram, explaining that she had chosen not to renew her contract to focus on other commitments.
Maya, 25, has worked for Radio 1 since joining the team in 2018, and the news of her departure comes after she was linked to the Strictly Come Dancing line-up for the 2020 series.

It had been reported that Maya was one of the celebrities BBC bosses were keen to sign up to appear on the dancing competition.
However, a representative for the stunning presenter insisted to OK! online that she “isn’t in discussion with Strictly” but is “flattered” by the reports.
Maya, who’s ex Stormzy admitted he still loves her, later responded to the claims herself on Twitter, saying: “Lol I’m down if they add a dancehall section,” followed by several bunny girl emojis.
Maya wrote in her message about her decision to leave in the BBC in June: "My loveess. I've made the very difficult decision not to continue my Radio 1 contract from June.
"As you know I have been juggling & There are a lot of exciting commitments happening that would mean I'm not able to dedicate the time needed to my weekly radio show.
"I've loved every moment of my time at Radio 1 and I would like to thank the team for their hard work and friendship during the last two years. It’s been a JOURNEY."

Adding a big thank you to her fans and listeners for tuning in she revealed that her show had been getting the "largest proportion of under 35s tuning in for our on-demand show on BBC Sounds".
She finished: "So we are going out with a bang! Love youuuuu listeners."
BBC controller of pop music Lorna Clarke said: "We'd like to thank Maya for all her commitment and hard work at Radio One, and we wish her all the very best with her future."
During lockdown Radio 1 have had a temporary schedule in place with several of their star hosts taking rotating presenting duties each week.
Maya's last show aired on May 3 and according to the Mirror Online the duo of Alice Levine and Dev Griffin, and Jordan North, will continue to cover the weekend morning slot.
