Meghan Markle left the world speechless when she alleged she didn’t know who Prince Harry was. The mum-of-two added that before meeting the Royal Family, she hadn’t researched them.
I just find it very hard to believe that in this day and age, anybody would not look somebody up if they were well known.
Former actress Meghan, 39, is said to have been set up on a blind date with Prince Harry, 36, when they first began dating in 2016.
During the Sussexes bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan claimed to have not researched the Queen or her relatives ahead of meeting The Firm.
She insists that just moments before meeting the Queen, she was taught royal protocol and how to curtsy by Sarah, Duchess of York.
However, former Page 3 model Leilani Dowding, who is engaged to The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy, has hit out.
She claims: “Absolutely not [true] in this day and age, everyone Googles everyone.”
Addressing her relationship with Billy, who she had met on a blind date, Leilani added: “I googled Billy and Billy googled me, the moment I heard that he wanted to ask me out, I said, ‘You know, send me a photo, what’s his name? Oh, Billy Duffy, OK, let me put that into Google and see what happens’.
“I just find it very hard to believe that in this day and age, anybody would not look somebody up if they were well known.”
The former Real Housewives of Cheshire star went on to say: “I just think if you’re going on, whether it’s a blind date or anything, it would be so naive not to look up somebody first. Absolutely, Billy did that with me, I did it with him — I don’t know anybody that wouldn’t!”
Speaking to Oprah, Meghan said: “Thank God I didn’t know a lot about the family, thank God I hadn’t researched – I would’ve been so in my head about it.”
Discussing royal protocol after being asked if she knew how to curtsy, Meghan added: “I thought genuinely that’s what happens outside, I thought that was part of the fanfare, but I didn’t think that’s what happened inside.
“And I said ‘but it’s your grandmother’, and he goes ‘it’s the Queen’.”
Leilani, who currently resides in Staffordshire, also believes that Meghan and Harry will one day appear in a reality TV show.
Leilani’s bombshell revelations come after the Duke and Duchess signed a lucrative deal with streaming giant Netflix to produce films, documentaries and children’s TV shows.
“She thought she was going to be like a Kardashian on the red carpet and beautiful dresses and that was the life of a Princess or a Duchess,” claims Leilani.
She added: “I think she got a bit of a rude awakening when she saw what her duties will actually be and it was so obvious that she was going to try and get out of it and then as soon as she said she was going to Los Angeles, I was just thought, ‘Oh my God she really wants to be like a Kardashian!’”
Leilani, 41, and fiancé Billy became engaged just weeks before the world plummeted into lockdown in March 2020.
Taking to her Instagram page, the Bournemouth-born star shared a sweet snap of the palm of her hand with “I said yes” written on it.
Captioning her post, she wrote: “This virus has made me realise what an a**e I’ve been taking so many small things for granted. Life can change SO fast in days.
“I’ve never felt such relief and gratitude that Billy could make it home before the travel ban kicked in. This surreal time has made me reflect on what matters most. It’s actually the BEST timing it could ever be!! I don’t care that there was no party or a romantic foreign destination.
“The only thing that matters, is being together. I’m so lucky and so grateful that he can be home.”
Leilani also shared her frustration after discovering that Victoria’s Secret had axed their iconic “Angels”.
The star explained: “I’m just finding this whole woke stuff so weird it’s like, if you show your body as somebody who’s healthy, fit, in shape, like an Angel, it’s degrading to women but if you’re unhealthy kind of chubby, and yeah, kind of look a bit unhealthy and you’ve got bits hanging out all over the place that maybe shouldn’t be there, then that’s body positive.
“So you could be naked all over Instagram, with everything just hanging out, as long as you’re a little bit chubby, and a little bit unhealthy and then it’s all body, positive and OK.
“But if you’re a Victoria’s Secret model getting half-naked it’s offensive to women – it’s actually laughable.”
