Piers Morgan, 55, exchanged words with his co-star Alex Beresford, 40, after the latter urged the Good Morning Britain host to give Meghan Markle a “break”. The ITV presenter has shared his thoughts on social media about Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah which is set to air in the UK.

The weatherman reacted to a Twitter post which Piers had shared in view of his 7.7 million followers.

Alex called out the GMB presenter telling him to give the Duchess of Sussex a break.

It comes after Piers had shared a photo of Meghan alongside Wallace Simpson, the American socialite Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry.

Piers penned: “I think it’s maybe time to ban our Princes from marrying American women.”

In view of his 69,000 followers, Alex replied: “You ever stop and think maybe you should give this woman carrying a baby a break?”

The ITV broadcaster followed up his meteorologist’s post as he referred to the Queen, whose husband Prince Philip is currently recovering in hospital.

Piers fired back: “You mean like she’s giving a 94yr-old woman a break as her husband lies in the hospital?”

Their back and forth did not stop there as Alex made reference to Prince Andrew, the Queen’s eldest son.

Alex wrote: “I reckon Andrew has given her a harder time…but yeah let’s get back to Meghan…”

“I’ve addressed Andrew multiple times this week, as you know,” Piers insisted.

“But Meghan’s chosen this weekend to trash her husband’s family on global TV, as Philip lies in hospital. You can support that all you wish, I think it’s shameful.”

Alex retaliated: “So sorry your Andrew tweets must be buried under all the Meghan ones! And it’s Harry and Meghan…”

Piers has been a vocal critic of Meghan and has shared his thoughts on social media in the run-up to the tell-all interview with the Duchess and Prince Harry.

Meghan and Prince Harry have sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a special that will air in the UK on Monday night.

This is not the first time Piers and Alex have gone back and forth on social media with the latter coming to Meghan’s defence.

Last month, Piers slammed Alex for defending Prince Harry and Meghan’s bid to “control” stories that are written about them in the press following their move to America.

Alex supported the royal couple following Prince Harry’s interview with James Corden which aired on The Late Late Show.

The interview saw Harry, who has quit royal duties for a new life in the US with his wife Meghan, open up about his experiences as part of the Royal Family.

Piers was less than impressed with his Good Morning Britain colleague’s views about Harry and Meghan’s behaviour towards the media.

He retweeted Alex’s post and hit back in view of his 7.7 million followers: “Mate, if you want to be a journalist, probably best not to advocate ‘controlling the press’ as a good thing.”
