Stevie Wonder To Be Honored With Legal Defense Funds Inaugural Icon Award
Stevie Wonder will be honored with the Legal Defense Fund‘s inaugural Icon Award.
The legendary artist will receive the award at the racial-justice organization’s 34th National Equal Justice Awards Dinner, to be held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on May 10.
Wonder will be honored for “his steadfast work throughout his illustrious career, spanning over half a century, which embodies LDF’s values and demonstrates his commitment to confronting the barriers that face Black Americans and other marginalized communities,” the Legal Defense Fund said in a statement.
Pulitzer Prize winner Nikole Hannah-Jones, will be presented with the Spirit of Justice Award. Sherrilyn Ifill, the Legal Defense Fund’s outgoing president and Director-Counsel, will receive the Thurgood Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award.
Former first lady Michelle Obama and former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick will send video messages to the award ceremony.
The ceremony will also feature two performances from the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
