Zendaya & John David Washington Could Make Oscar History In More Ways Than One For ‘Malcolm & Marie’

Zendaya and John David Washington are making headlines for their upcoming film, Malcolm & Marie, which is being eyed for award season in 2021.

The two stars are also being touted for accolades of their own from the movie, including for the Oscars.

Variety is also saying that if Malcolm & Marie is nominated, both stars would make history in more ways than one. Here’s how:

For John David, should Malcolm & Marie be nominated alongside Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for Best Picture, that would make him and his father, Denzel Washington, the first father-son pairing nominated ever, as both of them are also producers on their movies.

For Zendaya, as a producer as well, she would be the second Black woman to be nominated in the category and also be the most nominated Black woman in a single year in history, tying Mary J. Blige.

The list goes on for Zendaya, including that she would be the youngest female producing nominee in the categories history; and if nominated for both picture and actress, she would be the first woman to be nominated for acting and producing.

Zendaya could potentially also be the first actress since Helen Mirren to win an Emmy and an Oscar in the same year.

She picked up the Emmy in fall 2020 for her role as Rue in Euphoria. But here’s why she’d not halfway to EGOT status just yet…
