Zoe Ball shares heartache over Paul OGradys last TV appearance on Eurovision
BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Zoe Ball, 52, has revealed her bittersweet emotions over showbiz legend and her former co-star Paul O’Grady’s final TV appearance in the build up to the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
The star shared a screen grab of the late Paul, who tragically died on March 28, from the Eurovision 2023 semi-final, which aired on the BBC last night.
Birkenhead-born TV favourite Paul appeared in the Welcome to Liverpool video that opened the first semi-final at the M&S Bank Arena.
Zoe took to Twitter after the emotional moment aired, writing in view of her 405,000 followers: “wonderful to see darling #PaulOGrady on the opening of the first #Eurovision semi-final
“We miss you so much pog,” Zoe added, sweetly referencing Paul’s nickname.
The Lily Savage star was filmed holding one of his beloved dogs while mopping the floor in a montage showing Liverpool preparing to host the competition.
Paul could then be seen looking directly into the camera with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
The BBC revealed that the montage was one of the last things he filmed before his death at the age of 67, and the clip was included in the semi-final with the blessing of Paul’s family and friends.
The broadcaster shared: “Paul took part in this film as he wanted to mark his pride in his home region of Liverpool hosting the contest on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine.”

Fans were quick to comment on Zoe’s words about Paul’s final TV appearance, with one writing: “Miss this man so much. Tv won’t be the same without him.”
Another agreed: “I miss him. He was a legend. If you were feeling down, watching him cheered you up. Kind, caring, animal lover, what a life!”
“A true gentleman,” a third viewer commented.
Shortly after the news of Paul’s death was announced in March, Zoe discussed her heartbreak on the airwaves during her BBC Radio 2 show.
Zoe said she had been sharing her personal memories of Paul with Radio 2 co-stars Tina Daheley and Richie Anderson.
The presenter shared at the time: “Just sat here with Richie and Tina and we’re all sharing our memories of Paul O’Grady, as we’ve woken up with the terrible news that he’s died this morning, and we’re all sort of crestfallen and heartbroken aren’t we? We all loved and adored him.”
BBC Newsreader Tina added: “A real shock to wake up to and see that on your phone first thing when you get up.”
“He’s so beloved and hilarious and just the best company,” Zoe replied.
Zoe went on to reveal she used to get inspiring pep talks from Paul, dressed as his alter ego Lily Savage.
Zoe first worked with Paul on The Big Breakfast when she was just starting out in the showbiz industry.
Recalling her fond memories of that time, Zoe told listeners: “I got to work with Lily Savage very closely on The Big Breakfast and I was very wet behind the ears at the time, just been doing kids TV, and I used to have a pep talk from Paul dressed as Lily Savage every morning before going on – just so joyous, and so surreal!”
