Corum Bubble X Ray Gets Under the Skin of a Modern Icon
Corum’s famed Bubble is back with a luminous skull dial reflecting the model’s earliest designs.
The Corum Bubble X Ray features a 47mm, black PVD-coated stainless steel case, housing a 4Hz automatic movement, which is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. But it’s the exaggerated, highly domed sapphire crystal on the dial side that gives the watch its name, distorting the view of the dial.
The dial features a realistic depiction of a human skull on its dial, which glows green during low light conditions. The theme is carried over onto its synthetic alligator strap through the use of matching green fluorescent stitching.
The Bubble model first launched in 2000 and has served as an outlet for the brand’s more playful, artistic watch designs since then, featuring everything from custom art commissions to optical illusion pieces.
The X Ray signals the return of the Bubble which, at the peak of its popularity, was the subject of scores of limited edition runs each year, but has all but disappeared from Corum’s collection in recent years.
Limited to 88 pieces, the Bubble X Ray is available now via Corum retailers, with price to follow.
