Brighton vs Manchester United betting preview

Manchester United remain firmly on course for a place in next season’s Champions League following a run which has seen them take 13 of the last 15 available points.

Still, with Liverpool at least putting a bit of pressure on from below with a winning run of their own, Erik ten Hag’s men will want to avoid any slip-ups which would only encourage their great rivals.

A trip to Brighton is certainly a tricky one.

The hosts are enjoying a fine season and have European ambitions of their own.

They come into this game in eighth place but with games in hand on all the teams above them, they remain hopeful of a place in next season’s Europa or Conference League, which would be a fine achievement.

The Seagulls lost to Nottingham Forest recently but they bounced back impressively on Saturday with a 6-0 demolition of Wolves on home soil.

That may worry United, who have struggled against the better teams on their travels this season – they’ve already played the other members of the top eight and have lost every time bar last week’s 2-2 draw at Spurs.

Still, Brighton have had problems of their own against the elite, playing the teams in the top half 13 times so far, losing eight and winning only twice.

Given that fact and with the market making the hosts odds-on for victory, it’s not difficult to take Brighton on.

Backing United and the draw – a result which would arguably suit both teams – is basically betting on Brighton not to win and that looks the best approach here.

We’ve also got a couple of props plays from the sub-markets. Read on for those…

Brighton vs Manchester United key stats

  • Brighton’s Joel Veltman is a doubt after limping off against Wolves at the weekend. Pascal Gross will likely be moved to right-back if the Dutchman fails to recover.
  • For United, first-choice centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane remain out. Harry Maguire could start. Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho are nearing a return.
  • Only Manchester City have had more shots per game than Brighton this season, while the Seagulls lead the league for shots on target.
  • Brighton have won a whopping 83% of their points against teams currently in the bottom half of the table.
  • United have conceded 31 goals in 16 away games. Of the teams in the top half, only Spurs have conceded more on the road (35).

Draw/Man Utd double chance

It’s been an impressive season for Brighton, no doubt, but look into the details of their campaign and you find their success has strong foundations in being ruthless against the ‘lesser’ sides.

Forty-three of their 52 points have been won against teams currently in the bottom half of the table so it doesn’t take a genius to realise they’ve struggled against the big guns.

The concern for this bet is that United’s weakness has been away from home against the better sides but with Liverpool turning up the heat in the race for a top-four finish, they will be busting a gut to get something out of this one.

Unbeaten in six domestically, they can extend that run here.

Solly March anytime assist

March has been one of the stars of Brighton’s campaign, providing a total of eight Premier League assists.

Three of those have come in the last six matches.

With two attacking teams, both requiring something from the game, there could be a few goals in this one with March having the potential to pick holes a United defence still weakened by injury.

Solly March & Alexis Mac Allister 1+ shot on target each

Brighton lead the league for shots on target this season and these two have been a big reason for that statistic.

Both love a shot and both have proved adept at hitting the target.

This bet has landed in 10 of the last 15 games in which they have both started but we’re getting odds-against here which looks worth taking.
