Hermes customers warned to watch out for new fake message circulating

Online shopping is massively popular, but buying items on the internet could give fraudsters the chance to scam you.

Fake texts and emails can be difficult to spot as they often contain official logos and information.

Customers are told to head to social media for advice on when they think they've been a victim of fraud.

Now a number of Brits have shared fake texts which appear to be from Hermes.

They often include links and will ask customers to pay to have their parcels delivered.

Posting on social media, one customer shared the text message they received.

It said: "Hermes: You have a parcel awaiting please confirm redelivery via our secure link. Custom fee of £1.45 (GBP) VAT applies."

Another shared a similar message, which read: "Hermes: Sorry we missed you. Our driver will be redelivering tomorrow.

"Please reschedule and cover the £1.45 service fee."

While a third posted: "Just a warning the scam is also being done by people pretending to be Hermes now."

It came accompanied with a fake message which asked them to visit a link to arrange a delivery.

Meanwhile, a Hermes colleague helped to identify that it was a scam.

The worker wrote: "It's a scam. I drive for Hermes. They'd never incur an extra charge on a delivery."

A Hermes spokesperson said: "The so-called 'phishing' – derived from 'password fishing' – is used to get a hold of confidential user data and passwords by sending out fake emails.

"Hermes will never ask you (e.g. by e-mail or by telephone or by SMS), to enter or transmit sensitive customer information via the Internet."

The comment added: "The payment of our services will be on the spot and in cash. If you receive a payment request via email, please ignore this. In this case it is a phishing attempt. Other phishing emails ask the user to change password or threaten to block accounts.

"In these cases, do not enter any data whatsoever. Be sceptical when you receive shipment confirmations or other emails from companies you have not ordered anything from."

Anyone who gets a suspicious message is asked to not click any links.

Instead, they can be reported to Action Fraud.
