I worry I'm not good enough for my successful boyfriend
DEAR DEIDRE: I FEEL like I’m lagging behind my boyfriend because I can’t afford to buy a flat like he did when he was my age.
I’m 22. We’ve been dating for a year and while it’s going well, I keep getting this nagging feeling that I’m not good enough for him.
He is 26, has a flat with a mortgage and works full-time for his dad’s removal company. It is an old, established firm and is doing well despite the pandemic.

I’m a university student and although I have a job, it is part-time and doesn’t pay well. I live with my parents and would love a place of my own but I can’t afford it.
I am trying to be sensible about it, as well as focusing on my degree. Am I right to be worried like this?
DEIDRE SAYS: Please do not compare yourself with your boyfriend. He has been fortunate to get a leg-up from his family.
Your whole generation are struggling to afford places of their own.
Keep focusing on your studies, which will lead to a good job once you gain your degree.
My support pack on Raising Self-Esteem can help you develop positive feelings about yourself.
