Jello skin is the K-beauty trend taking over social media

When it comes to places that take their skincare seriously, South Korea is definitely up there, with the K-beauty phenomenon now very much a global obsession.

Already responsible for putting trends like glass skin and slugging on the map, the new kid on the block piquing everyone’s interest is jello skin. If those words mean nothing to you, here’s what that entails…

What is jello skin?

In short, this K-beauty inspired concept is all about plump and dewy skin that has a lotta lotta bounce to it. It really took off when beauty creator @glowwithava started posting about bouncy skin. “In Korea, this is called taeng taeng, [but] since there is no direct translation I am calling it jello skin,” she explained in a TikTok. And now, everyone else wants in on the bouncy jello skin game.

“Korean beauty has shown time and time again that the best way to achieve your skin goals is by nourishing and moisturising the skin,” says Nick Drewe, trends expert atWeThrift. “This latest trend ‘jello skin’ is all about creating a plump and structured skin texture that bounces and feels elastic, similar to the feel of jello, known as jelly in the UK.”

As with all beauty trends, a good indicator of a skincare regime’s popularity is how many views it’s racked up on TikTok and, at the time of writing, the #jelloskin hashtag sits at just over 14 million views. To get your bouncy skin game on, here are a few of our favourite softening, hydrating and glow-giving K-beauty skincare buys to get you started.
