Queen Letizia of Spain welcomes the Italian president

Dazzling in diamonds! Queen Letizia cuts an elegant figure in a chic black ball gown and tiara as she and King Felipe VI host a glittering state banquet in honour of Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s visit to Spain

Queen Letizia cut an elegant figure in a chic black gown as she hosted a dinner in honour of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s visit on Thursday evening.  

The Spanish royal, 49, put her best foot forward as she accompanied her husband King Felipe VI, 53, in welcoming Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura Mattarella at the glittering state banquet.   

Letizia, who wore her brown locks swept back in a chic bun, dazzled in diamonds – including an impressive tiara featuring pearl detail, eye-catching necklace and matching bracelet. 

Both Letizia and her husband King Felipe VI wore the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic as a nod to their guests.

King Felipe looked dapper in a crisp white shirt, smart black suit and  ceremonial green sash. 

During the evening, Letizia and President Sergio could be seen clinking glasses over their meal as they raised a toast and engaged in conversation at the table.

Earlier in the day, Letizia looked the picture of elegance as she welcomed the Italian president and Laura to the Royal Palace in Madrid. 

As the daughter of President Sergio, who is a widow, Laura has accompanied her father on many trips and has acted as the First Lady of Italy since 2015.

Letizia looked in deep conversation with the Italian President during the dinner. A translator made sure her words came across

Guests and hosts seemed to be spending a lovely time in each other’s company at tonight’s dinner 

For the occasion, the Spanish queen donned a below-knee tweed dress with long sleeves in muted mottled grey mixed with pinks and blues.  

The mother-of-two put on a stylish display as she wore a beige buttoned poncho over her shoulders that featured a high neck collar. 

The glamourous royal matched her ensemble with grey court shoes and an accompanying handbag of the same colour.

Letizia kept the look simple by wearing discreet jewellery in the form of a small diamond-encrusted feather on each ear.

The royal wore her hair loosely down to fall around her face and tucked it behind her ears in a a chic do.

King Felipe VI wore a sharp dark suit with an overcoat for warmth and a red tie.

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, joined the royal couple to welcome the Italian president.

The welcome comes after the royal pair visited the Municipal Transport company and were treated to a tour of its old buses, including a blue and white double-decker bus.

The royal couple hopped on the bus and were seen sitting on the top floor of the vehicle.

A marching band played to kick off the festivities and promenaded outside the front of the palace in royal colours

Letizia’s hair was styled straight, and she kept the look simple with a dash of makeup. Felipe VI and her were both wearing face masks

They also stepped out to enjoy an evening of music in Madrid.

The Monarchs attended the premiere Of The Opera ‘Partenope’ at the city’s Royal Theatre.

For the occasion, Letizia donned a £139 black sleeveless top from Hugo Boss with wide-legged trousers from Carolina Herrera, which she paired with black accessories to achieve the glamorous evening-wear look.

The mother-of-two put on a stylish display with the trendy wide-legged Palazzo trousers from the Spanish designer.

She paired it with a sleeveless top with a high neckline and glittering detail, which she tucked in the trousers to accentuate her petite frame and slender waist.
