Shoppers rave about £2 seasoning that makes perfect, crispy roast potatoes

It’s getting colder day by day as we head into winter and you know what that means?

Comfort food!

It’s time to start cooking hearty, family filling meals which brush off the chill from outside.

And, one of our favourite meals is a roast dinner – and the roast potatoes that come with them.

Now, making roasties isn’t the most complicated dish, but there are things you can do to take them to the next level.

Predominantly, adding extra crunch and flavour with herbs and other additions.

If you’ve ever sprinkled OXO cubes on your spuds, this works in a similar way.

What's your favourite way to make roast potatoes? Let us know in the comments…

To make things easier, Sainsbury’s has released a pre-mixed roast potato seasoning which is out-of-this-world.

The mix is made from a blend of salt, onion powder, black pepper, white pepper and rosemary.

Plus, the main ingredient: polenta.

Polenta is a finely milled corn meal which chefs often sprinkle on roast potatoes to give them an incredible crispy outer layer.

Meanwhile, the pepper, herbs and onion powder give them a rich savoury taste and golden colour.

To make your perfect roast potatoes, chop them into quarters and par-boil them for seven minutes.

While you’re doing this heat up some oil or dripping in a baking dish in the oven.

When they’re done, drain them, shake them to scuff up the edges and sprinkle on some flour.

Put them back in the pan to cook off the moisture on the edges.

After a minute or two, sprinkle a generous amount of the roast potato seasoning onto the spuds before placing them into the baking dish and returning to the oven.

Cook for 40 minutes, turning once or twice.

Reviews of the seasoning are majorly positive.

One person said: “It seems expensive for a small jar, but a little goes a long way.

“I’ve tried mixing my own seasoning but it’s nowhere near as good as this – worth every penny.

“Guests want to know how I get my roast potatoes so good – this seasoning and beef dripping is the answer.

“An excellent product.”
