Sleep-deprived woman, 21, who killed boyfriend in car after night out is jailed

A sleep-deprived woman who killed her boyfriend by crashing into a lorry head-on just hours after a night out has been jailed.

Hannah Bowman, 21, was warned not to get into her car before she drove home after 'minimal' sleep in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

Her boyfriend, Jordan Wilson, 20, died from his injuries two days after Bownman's Suzuki Swift swerved in the road and slammed into a lorry.

Bowman passed an alcohol breath test at the scene, although she later admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

Mr Wilson's mum said her relatives would have to live with the consequences of Bowman's actions for the rest of their lives, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Bowman and her boyfriend, a budding musician, had been drinking in Whitehaven pubs the night before his death, Mail Online reports.

The website states that Bowman decided to drive home to Nenthead, Cumbria, at around 5am, despite having had 'minimal' sleep.

Mr Wilson's sister warned her that it was 'stupid and dangerous', however she was ignored.

Francis McEntee, prosecuting, said: "The conclusion is she was suffering the effects of fatigue. This was the major cause of the collision.
