Spoilers: Toadie hurt by Melanie’s betrayal in Neighbours

Toadie (Ryan Moloney) and Melanie’s (Lucinda Cowden) honeymoon period is about to come to a crashing end when they realise they’re in two different places. He’s nervous about his new relationship and doesn’t want to rush things, but Melanie has other ideas that risk their happy little love bubble.

Melanie is mentally ahead of Toadie with their relationship and is ready to tell the world, but Toadie is hanging back – they’re edging towards having to tell the kids and he’s just not ready. It’s a huge deal for him and his children, but she is desperate for the kids to know about her and doesn’t understand his reservations. Why can’t he just be honest?

But Toadie won’t be pushed, he doesn’t think the timing is right and wants to wait longer.

Mel is left miffed by this, she doesn’t want to be his dirty little secret who has to hide when someone they know walks past or tell fibs if someone senses chemistry between them.

In fact, Melanie feels pushed to do something drastic in a bid to move her relationship forwards – and in a moment of high emotion she blurts out to the children that she’s their dad’s girlfriend. Yikes.

Toadie is mortified. It wasn’t her place and he fears the reveal could be seriously damaging to them. He’d wanted it to be handled much more sensitively. She deliberately went behind his back and this does not bode well for their future.

His anger is simmering, but it explodes to the surface during a dinner party with Jane and Clive. He thinks Melanie doesn’t feel an ounce of remorse for what she’s done, while Melanie counters by saying she feels she’s his dirty secret and does not by any means plan to stay that way. Is this the end for these two?

Scenes air from Monday 14th June on Channel 5.
