Woman exposes how false Instagram is by editing bikini snap beyond recognition
Social media often can make people feel quite insecure about themselves.
With endless pictures of glowing skin and "perfectly" toned bodies, it can make some feel as if they are not good enough.
However, body positive influencer Karina Irby has made it her mission to debunk social media fakery.
She is attempting to empower women to love their bodies just the way they are.
So for her latest Instagram post, the 31-year-old Australian beauty showed how easy it is to fake “perfection” by using a few editing apps.
In a side by side snap, Karina dons a skimpy cow print bikini and strikes a pose.
On the left side, Karina can be seen looking naturally gorgeous.
She poses in minimal make-up while showing off her natural curves.
But on the right side, Karina looks completely unrecognisable.
By using editing apps, she has given herself a full glam face, darker skin and abs.
Remarkably, she has even managed to edit a pearly smile onto her face!
Karina captioned the post: “I DOWNLOADED 4 EDITING APPS. So apparently I’m a fitness coach who’s preparing for a competitive bikini contest in a few weeks.
“This just shows the pure power that editing apps have. Not only the power to edit your images… but the power to present a totally false and unrealistic picture to the world.”
She then lists the four apps she used to alter her face and body.
“FACE APP EDITS – Makeup. Smile. Face Contouring. Hair colour.
“PHOTABLE EDITS – Abs.
“FACETUNE EDITS – Skin smoothing. Body sculpting. Brow lift. Body contouring.
“COLOUR TONE EDITS – Filter. Colour Enhancing.”
Shockingly, the influencer admitted that the dramatic editing took no time at all.
She revealed: “All this only took me around 20 mins.”
To show just how easy it is to distort a photo of yourself, Karina included a video of the editing process.
Gobsmacked at how simple it is to change your appearance, people rushed to the comments to thank Karina for exposing the often used influencer trick.
One person commented: “I appreciate this post. Editing shouldn't be normalised, but since it's sitting in our lap, we must normalise it so people know!!!”
Another user added: “I love the natural! It’s so horrifying the editing that can be done so quickly, it is like what is real and what is fake anymore?”
A third person noted: “That’s so scary that you can do all that with apps.”
Someone else said: “Girl… I gotta be honest, you save me almost every day. Social media is CRUEL to our self esteem.
“Seeing your posts makes me SO happy and encourages me to love my body and to remember that women’s bodies are all designed differently and not to be perfect. THANK YOU, I love you.”
Meanwhile, a fifth user expressed: “It's sad we live in a world where women do this to themselves to feel validated.
“Then young girls look at these images and become sad and depressed because they aren't picture perfect like what they see. It’s a sad world we live in.”
