Michael Jackson Drake collaboration: How did MJ collaborate with Drake?
Michael Jackson: Jane Fonda reveals she skinny dipped with star
Michael Jackson released 10 albums in his career, beginning when he was only a child of 14-years-old. He was singing and dancing with his brothers for years before then, but as a solo artist his stardom was truly cemented with the 1982 album Thriller. In 2018, rapper Drake released a collaboration with the star – but how was that possible?
After Michael’s death, there were a number of posthumous releases of music which had been made earlier in his career.
His first posthumous album was called Michael, released in 2010, and this included new songs recorded before Michael’s death, which had never been released.
One of these was Hold My Hand, with singer Akon, and Hollywood Tonight, where spoken parts were included from Michael’s family.
Later, in 2014, another album was released called Xscape, which included previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1980 and 1999, but reworked by major producers such as Timbaland.

One of these was the song Love Never Felt So Good, which was released as the lead single from this album, which had multiple versions.
The first version was just Michael singing, but the other included a duet which was created after Michael’s death, between the singer and Justin Timberlake.
The wonders of technology never cease, as now Drake and Michael have collaborated, with the song Don’t Matter to Me being released in 2018, almost 10 years after Michael’s death.
Michael’s vocals from the song were taken from a similar time in his life to the music on the album Xscape, from a session with Canadian songwriter Paul Anka.
Love Never Felt So Good was another of the songs from this, as well as This Is It, which was also the name of Michael’s final tour which never took place.
The session took place in 1983, and Paul spoke about the 2014 song Love Never Felt So Good when he first heard it come out after years.
He told The Globe and Mail in Canada in 2014: “I’ve had a long journey with that song.
“It’s certainly a commentary on good material. It’s from a period where Michael was really in his zone.”
Paul fought for songwriting credits on the song, with Sony relinquishing 50 percent of the credit to him after the song’s release.
He also said Michael’s songwriting was not ‘technical’ in its approach, saying: “He wasn’t a great musician in that sense.
“His genius was that he had a very strong and passionate love for what he was doing and knowing himself.
“You could put a drum and a piano and maybe a bass with all those sounds he makes and his whole wherewithal with himself, and what he was capable of doing was remarkable.”
As for Don’t Matter to Me, this song was first worked on as a demo in 1983, and his vocal is included as a segment amidst Drake’s rapping.
It was released on Drake’s fifth album, Scorpion, and is currently Michael’s final Top 10 song.
