The Parent Hood actress Suzzanne Douglas dies after cancer battle

Suzzanne Douglas has died at the age of 64, her husband has confirmed, following complications from cancer.
The star's husband told US publication TMZ that Suzzanne died at her home in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
He said: "Her energy and creativity will be missed by all."
Suzzanne was best known for playing matriarch Jerri Peterson on The Parent 'Hood, but recently appeared in the Netflix series When They See Us.
Tributes have been pouring in for the actress, including one from her cousin Angie Tee, who shared a touching post on Facebook.
Angie wrote: "She warmed our hearts on movie screens and television sets all over the world.
"I can remember growing up, there weren't very many black actresses who had starring roles but there was my cousin with the lead role in Tap starring alongside great dancers such as Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr."
She went on to remember how Suzzanne had acted alongside Angela Bassett and Whoopi Goldberg in How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Angie finished by writing: "The world will miss your talent but your soul will live on forever. Rest in Paradise my beautiful cousin Suzzanne you will be missed RIP."
People immediately began sharing their well wishes and condolences, with one writing: "Grew up watching her, so sorry to hear this. Prayers for her family."
Another told Angie: "You have my deepest condolences. She was a great actor."

Suzzanne had a glittering career, best known for appearing on US sitcom The Parent 'Hood alongside Robert Townsend between 1995 and 1999.
She's also remembered for her portrayal of Cissy Houston in the Lifetime TV movie Whitney, which came out in 2015.
Then in 2019 she landed a role as the mother of one of the main characters in Netflix's When They See Us.
The actress cites The Sound of Music as her inspiration for wanting to pursue a career in the industry.
During her time on-screen, she had guest appearances on the likes of The Cosby Show, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Bones and The Good Wife.
She also played Tomika's mother in cult classic movie School of Rock in 2003.
She married neuro-radiologist Ray Cobb in February 1989, and together they have one daughter.
