The Truth About Hailie Mathers’ Life Today

Ready to feel old? The young daughter that Eminem couldn’t stop referencing during his early days as the hip-hop scene’s enfant terrible is now in her mid-20s! Yes, the girl who proved The Real Slim Shady did in fact have a softer side, Hailie Mathers, reached the quarter-century mark in 2020, the same year that her father reached the grand old age of 48.

After being thrust into the spotlight while still in elementary school thanks to her parents’ turbulent family drama and name-checks in tracks such as “Cleaning Out My Closet,” “Like Toy Soldiers” and, of course, “Hailie’s Song,” the youngster decided to live a relatively normal life throughout her teens.

However, her recent flurry of activity on social media suggests that she’s now ready to become a fully-fledged celebrity in her own right. Here’s a look at what we know about one of the rap world’s most famous and now grown-up offspring, Hailie Mathers.

Hailie Mathers has made her father proud

You wouldn’t expect an Eminem guest spot on a podcast hosted by Mike Tyson to be a particularly sentimental affair. But the rapper couldn’t stop gushing to the former heavyweight champion boxer about his family life during his appearance on Hotboxin in 2020.

The multiple chart-topper revealed his pride at his only biological daughter Hailie Mathers finishing school before referencing his adopted daughters Alaina and Whitney. Eminem told Tyson [33.40], “When I think about my accomplishments, that’s probably the thing I’m the most proud of … is being able to raise kids.”

And the feeling appears to be mutual. In the newsletter released to commemorate Michigan’s Chippewa Valley High School’s class of 2014 graduation, Hailie named both her mother Kim and famous father in the “Most Influential During My Lifetime” category. As reported by E!, she wrote that her parents “have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have.”

Hailie Mathers finished what her father didn't

It seems fair to say that Eminem wasn’t the model student back in the day. The future rap god was held back in ninth grade on no fewer than three occasions due to his disappointing grades and constant truancy. And at the age of 17, he decided to leave Lincoln High School in Michigan altogether.

In stark contrast, Eminem’s daughter Hailie Mathers appears to have embraced educational life. She left Chippewa Valley High School in 2014 with an impressive 3.9-grade average, having also been a member of the Art Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Council. The youngster received her school’s Department of Psychology and Academic Excellence Awards, too, and was even voted Homecoming Queen.

Hailie didn’t stop there, either. She earned a place at Michigan State University where she studied for and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. According to an insider quoted by Daily Mail in 2018, Hailie “had a normal life at university and was in a sorority, she was popular and focused hard on her studies.”

Hailie Mathers is now an influencer

Hailie Mathers may have graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. But it doesn’t seem like she has any interest in pursuing a career in the field just yet. Instead, it’s the lucrative world of Instagram influencing that Hailie is focusing all her energies on.

The 20-something first expressed an interest in becoming a social media darling during a 2018 interview with Daily Mail. When asked what her next move will be, she replied, “It’s kind of up in the air, still.” Hailie then went on to admit that she was hoping to capitalize on the near-million followers she’d amassed on the photo-sharing platform, also revealing that she’d already received several offers from various companies. In fact, according to reports, her net worth currently stands at an impressive $1 million.

Since then, Hailie has added another million followers, and to her credit, she’s done so without cashing in on her famous name. Indeed, there aren’t any father/daughter selfies on her Instagram page, and her handle is simply hailiejade. Impressive numbers they may be, but she still has a long way to go match the incredible 31 million that her dad Eminem can currently boast.

Hailie Mathers is in a long-term relationship

A bachelor’s degree in psychology wasn’t the only thing that Hailie Mathers attained while studying at Michigan State University. The social media influencer also bagged herself a boyfriend in the shape of economics major Evan McClintock.

Now you might expect that dating the daughter of a famously aggressive hip-hop artist whose rap sheet once dwarfed his discography to be a rather daunting prospect. However, it turns out that McClintock has managed to charm his way into Eminem’s and the rest of the Mathers’ affections. In 2018 an anonymous source told Daily Mail that Hailie’s family have welcomed the graduate with open arms.

Although Hailie has avoided any selfies with her father on her Instagram account, she’s more than happy to show off her beau online. Just don’t expect to see many snaps of the pair hitting the town. The same insider described McClintock and Hailie as a “fantastic young couple who love cozy nights in rather than hard partying.” Hailie also once sparked rumors that they’d got engaged when she captioned a 2019 selfie with numerous diamond ring emojis — although this turned out simply to be a reference to Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” to tie in with her Halloween costume.

She has no interest in following in her father's footsteps

Hailie Mathers not only became her father Eminem’s muse during his rise to superstardom at the turn of the century. She even lent her own very young voice to some of the tracks she helped to inspire.

Yes, that’s the very real Hailie you can hear on “’97 Bonnie and Clyde,” The Slim Shady EP cut in which the rapper fantasizes about killing her mother, Kim. The youngster also pops up on and, as the man also known as Marshall Mathers told Rolling Stone in 2004, even created the memorable hook (“Somebody, please help him! I think my dad’s gone crazy”) on The Eminem Show track “My Dad’s Gone Crazy.”

However, these early stints in the recording studio didn’t inspire Hailie to follow in her father’s musical footsteps. According to Daily Mail, the 20-something has always been more passionate about the beauty and makeup industry, and many of her Instagram snaps and stories focus on the tips and tricks she adopts.

Hailie Mathers is a dog lover

Among all the glamorous selfies, makeup tutorials, and loved-up snaps with boyfriend Evan McClintock, Hailie Mathers’ Instagram account is also filled with countless pics of her canine friends. Yes, the millennial has two adorable pups in her life, and she’s always more than happy to direct her followers’ attention to their ridiculously cute day-to-day lives.

According to PopCulture, Hailie once revealed on her Instagram page that the first dog she adopted is named Lottie and a Shiba Inu, a breed renowned for their stubbornness and high intelligence. In 2018 the influencer also brought another Shiba Inu into the fold, Wolf. In one particular Instagram Story that no doubt melted the hearts of every dog lover watching, the pair can be seen excitedly frolicking in the snow.

In another post, Hailie told her followers, “They have both been a handful to raise on my own, but so worth the work to train (and still working on training everyday)! Lottie is about 13 pounds and Wolf (who isn’t even half her age) is more than double her size! Fun fact: I originally decided on the breed because I heard they were good dogs to have in an apartment (they don’t bark often). Clearly I fell in love.”

Hailie Mathers got creative during the pandemic

Those who didn’t spend the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic bingeing and gossiping about Tiger King often decided to get creative with their unexpected downtime. Some baked banana bread, others tended to their gardens, while many pursued a previously untapped interest in sewing.

Hailie Mathers was one such individual who decided to pick up a needle and thread for the first time in their lives during the initial lockdown stages. And she certainly appeared proud of her efforts, too. As reported by PopCulture, the 20-something took to Instagram to document the homemade face masks she made for family and friends using various fabrics. Of course, being something of a style expert, her PPE was a little more fashionable than your average, with designs including polka dot, cheetah print, and even a pattern inspired by the Detroit Tigers.

As well as showing off her creative endeavors on social media, Hailie also implored her followers to be sensible and stay at home when possible, captioning another selfie, “I want to hang out with my friends as bad as Lottie wants to go outside and I refuse to put on full outfits to take pictures⁣. But seriously it’s so important to stay safe and healthy and social distance/stay home right now! The sooner everyone is on board, the sooner we can stop the spread of this virus and get back to as normal as [soon as] possible!”

She's still being name-dropped in her father's songs

In 2017, Eminem expressed regret about referencing his personal life, including daughter Hailie Mathers, throughout his discography on the Revival track “Castle” (“Things that should’ve been private with me and your mother is public/I can’t stomach/They can take this fame back/I don’t want it/I’ll put out this last album/Then I’m done with it”).

But the multiple Grammy winner soon went back on his word in more ways than one. Indeed, despite claiming that he was never putting out another studio effort, the rapper has since released Kamikaze in 2018 and Music to Be Murdered By two years later. And the former included yet another track name-checking his offspring.

Yes, on “Not Alike,” Eminem fired back at Machine Gun Kelly who — as reported by Vibe — in 2012 had described the then-16-year-old Hailie on Twitter as “hot as f***.” He raps, “And I’m talking to you but you already know who the f*** you are, Kelly/I don’t use sublims and sure as f*** don’t sneak-diss/But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, MGK didn’t take this lying down and responded with his own diss tracks, “Rap Devil” and “Bullet with No Names.” In 2020 Eminem reignited their feud with another jab at the Houston native on both “Zeus” and “Gnat.” Expect this beef to run and run.

Hailie Mathers is a fitness enthusiast

Hailie Mathers, it seems, is an Instagram influencer of many talents. As well as serving beauty and make-up tips and sewing her own face masks, the millennial has also used the social media platform to showcase her skills as a fitness instructor.

In 2020 Hailie decided to help everyone in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic get into shape by uploading several instructional exercise videos. The daughter of rap legend Eminem guided her followers on how to perform various moves, including the V-sit twist, reverse crunch, V-crunch, and the alternating single leg jackknife crunch. According to Celebrity Insider, Hailie had decided to post the clips after being bombarded with requests from fans keen to know how she got her impressive abs.

But she’s not the only member of the Mathers family to publicly share her workout regime. In 2015 her father Eminem revealed to Men’s Journal how he lost nearly 100 pounds in weight after a stint in rehab. However, his methods appeared to be a little more extreme: “I think I got a little carried away. I became a f***ing hamster. 17 miles a day on a treadmill. I would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I’d come home and run another eight and a half. I started getting OCD about the calories, making sure I burned 2,000 every day.”

Hailie Mathers has embraced TikTok

You might have expected someone determined to be a social media influencer to have joined the TikTok revolution a little earlier than January 2021. But that’s when Hailie Mathers finally decided to embrace the platform which appears to have taken over the world.

The 20-something’s first foray onto the video-sharing service was a self-deprecating one. Hailie can be seen Googling “How to Use TikTok” in the brief clip before pushing down her glasses when the results appear. Despite reading that the platform is extremely easy to use, she admits in the caption she admits that this took her two hours to produce.

And it seems as though Hailie has something in common with many of the followers she soon racked up. “I’ve never related to something so much,” quipped one such viewer. The influencer appears to have got the hang of things a bit better since. She’s posted more videos, including a lip-syncing make-up tutorial and an adorable dog montage, and accrued an impressive 31,000 followers at the time of this writing, too.

Hailie Mathers has sparked plastic surgery rumors

In 2019 Mirror compared a modern-day picture of Hailie Mathers with one taken in 2012. And instead of recognizing that the differences may have been simply the result of the aging process, the British newspaper sparked the rumor that Eminem’s daughter had gone under the knife.

In fact, they even asked a MYA Cosmetic Surgery spokesperson to add some weight to this theory. The unknown source agreed that the influencer could have benefited from both chin and jawline contouring with the aid of dermal non-surgical fillers. But they seemed more confident that Hailie had booked herself in for a Rhinoplasty.

The expert continued, “The bridge of her nose appears thinner, and the tip and nostrils appear to be smaller and slightly lifted compared to previous images. The surgical procedure of reducing the size of the nostrils is called an alar base reduction. A nose changing shape in such a way could only be achieved through surgery rather than contouring.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hailie didn’t respond to the kind of talk that has also followed her father around in recent years. Yes, in 2014, Eminem was accused of going under the knife thanks to a remarkably different appearance at the Wall Street Journal‘s Innovator of the Year awards.
