Casualty fans in tears over raw coronavirus episode and tragic character death

Casualty fans have been left emotional and heaped praise on the powerful episode which saw the ED deal with the huge surge of Covid-19 patients in an hour of drama that was raw, realistic and emotional.

Last year was dominated by the coronavirus pandemic and it forced Casualty off air but they returned with an episode highlighting the plight and hard work of the NHS staff on the front line – with beloved character Noel left dead after a battle with the virus.

With scenes showing doctors delivering terrible news tearfully over the telephone to distraught loved ones and a team spirit in a team as the patients kept flooding in, viewers were given an insightful and in depth look into what hospital wards looked like back in the first wave – and also starting to look like once more.

As the doctors and nurses worked agonising hours, found themselves overwhelmed with pressure and fought to keep on top of the workload, their own very personal lives were touched when beating heart of the ED, Noel, lost his fight for life.

As the broken team reeled from the news, there was little time to grieve as the next wave of ambulances rushed in, with more needing emergency treatment.

It’s an episode which hit home for many and Causualty has been widely praised for its unflinching look at the crisis:

Casualty has been off air for a number of months and this was the first episode back after a lengthy break.
