Corrie 'baby murder' scene attracts Ofcom complaints

Ofcom have received complaints in regards to a scene in Coronation Street which saw Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) put her baby in the washing machine amid a dream sequence.

The scene in question saw Gemma awake in the middle of the night to the sound of baby Aled’s cries, and — after failing to wake Chesney (Sam Aston) — she took the child downstairs.

Once she reached the kitchen, she seemingly put Aled in the washing machine.

The following scene saw her awake during the daylight, and — exhausted — was unable to tell if she’d had a nightmare or if her actions were real, and therefore she headed downstairs in a panic.

The character is currently struggling with the stress of raising four newborns — a narrative that will continue in the coming episodes, as mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazelgrove) does her best to support her daughter in her time of need.

During the latest episode, Gemma accidentally locked herself outside while her quads cried — leaving Bernie to kick the door down.

Coronation Street continues Wednesday 25 March at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV
