EastEnders fans beg producers not to kill off Lola following heartbreaking scenes
EastEnders fans have begged producers to take a u-turn the ongoing storyline which is set to see Lola Pearce – played by actress Danielle Harold – leave the show, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
In June this year, the show's new executive producer Chris Clenshaw made the shocking revelation that Lola was set to leave Albert Square later this year.
Recent episodes since have witnessed the Mitchell family torn apart after soap favourite Lola learns of her devastating diagnosis – however following the harrowing scenes from last night's instalment, several fans have cried out for writer's to change their minds on her fate, convinced her character will be killed off.
Taking to Twitter, one fan hit out: "@bbceatenders why does Lola have to be killed off? Why can't they just leave the square to get treatment abroad and Lola let's lexi live with ben or something."
"I think it's CRAZY they've wasted her talent," a second added. "Jay and Lola are so in sync. He killed me tonight, they both did."
Another wrote: "#EastEnders I'm so sad that we are going to lose Lola as a result of this storyline", whilst a fifth fan of the show begged: "Can eastenders pattern up. They can't kill Lola & mick".
One saddened fan added, "I will never forgive the writers of #eastenders for building up Lola and Jay's relationship, hinting at marriage and a happy future together, just for them to kill her off in this horrific drawn out manner".
Another tweeted: "Waiting for the writers in Eastenders to bang their heads together & not kill off Lola and get Stacey & Martin back together."
Having suffered a siezure in the last episode, last night saw Lola lying in a hospital bed, evidently anxiously awaiting an update on her health, which was revealed to be a brain tumour.
She and boyfriend Jay – played by actor Jamie Borthwick – were left emotionally destroyed as they took in the doctor's words, with producers revealing that the coming weeks will see the pair worry about the after-affects of her upcoming operation
Last night saw Lola actress Danielle, 30, take to Instagram to share a heart-warming snap alongside her on-screen family, captioning it: "When you’re lucky enough to have two families."
In October, the young actress described her departure storyline as a "massively humbling experience" when speaking to Digital Spy.
Danielle said: "It gives you a different outlook on life. You think about all the things you've been moaning about in day-to-day life because something like this really opens your eyes to the horrible things going on.
"I'm so glad this storyline is being done, because it's not previously had time dedicated to it in the soap.
"It's nice to highlight this when there is so little funding for brain tumour research in the UK. Other countries have developed more than we have; I hope it raises awareness and does some good."
