Gray Atkins (played by Toby-Alexander Smith) has been able to spin his web of lies and deceit over Walford residents for nearly two years. So far, Gray has gotten away with the murders of his wife Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer), barmaid Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and love-rival Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami). However, after being fired from his job Gray has now turned to using the death of Tina to extort Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) for money.

The lawyer is still clear of the three murders that have happened at his hands; however, his erratic behaviour has caught the attention of his ex-boss Laura Awoyinka (Sarah Paul).

Gray was nearly arrested for his backseat romp with girlfriend Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) which led to him being suspended from his job.

However, after failing to charm Laura and the firm’s HR representative, he was soon presented with his termination notice.

Gray was taken back by the decision Laura had come to, but she explained to him that his run-in with the police was a “good look.”

Before leaving his home, Laura made it clear she was watching him when she told him she’d figured out his true colours long ago.

Laura also knew that he had been the one sending her abusive messages online, with her threatening him with police action and stopped him from getting his final check.

She explained to him: “You’ve got this great front to yourself. Big house, nice car, expensive suit. With no job and no money, there’s gonna be nothing for you to hide behind.

“Everybody will see you for the nasty little misogynist you really are! Threatened by women, especially women like me.”

Enraged by the news he was just given and then finding out Chelsea had been bragging about the designer clothes she had purchased on his card, Gray stormed over to The Queen Vic.

Wanting to take back some sort of control, Gray told Shirley that he had recently seen Tina on a bus and lied: “I think she was trying to come home.”

Accompanied by her son Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), Shirley went over to Gray’s house to confront him on what he saw.

He stated to them he couldn’t be 100 per cent certain it was Tina he saw, pulling them in to play his games.

In upcoming scenes, Gray is tight on cash after being fired from his job and his girlfriend using his card to feed her shopping addiction.

He uses a burner phone to send a message to Shirley, acting as Tina begging for money and being a worried sister, Shirley contemplates.

Needing Shirley’s money, Gray persuades her that Tina needs the money now more than ever pushing Gray closer to getting what he wants.

Shirley later sees Phil and Grey acting friendly with one another which causes Shirley to lash out at them both.

Gray tries to reflect Shirley’s anger onto Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) instead of himself, reminding her that he is the one helping to look for Tina.

Will Gray’s manipulative actions force Shirley to give over the money? Or will she see through his web of lies and finally expose him?

Shirley has been feeling outraged at her sister’s disappearance, especially since Phil and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) have not admitted to the fact they nearly killed Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Shirley makes her way over to Phil’s house consumed with rage for Tina. She then picked up a baseball bat and hit Phil watching him fall to the floor.

Instead of calling for help she panics and exits the premises, leaving Phil on the floor alone and Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) upstairs unknowingly.

EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One.
