EastEnders’ Shane Richie says Alfie Moon could return to the Square after two years on the run – in 2021 – The Sun
EASTENDERS favourite Alfie Moon could be making a comeback as soon as 2021, according to actor Shane Richie.
The BBC One actor candidly confessed he would "never say never" to a return to the iconic soap, and the surroundings of Walford.
Shane appeared on Monday's This Morning where he chatting about his new TV show, before host Holly Willoughby requested detail on a potential Albert Square return.
She cited how his character Alfie owed Phil Mitchell money, before co-host Phillip Schofield chimed in to say how the former Queen Vic landlord was not dead, merely on the run.
Shane, 55, told the hosts he would never rule out a soap return and said of his bubbly character: "I don't know. He's still on the run I believe.
"I still speak to Jessie (Wallace, who plays Kat Moon) and she gives me updates."
The pair reunited for spin-off show, Redwater, before they came back to the main soap.
Yet those expecting an imminent Alfie Moon return may be disappointed, as the actor roughed out a potential timeline.
Shane added: "I am busy next year so maybe the year after.
"I love playing Alfie Moon and occasionally I dip in and out of the show.”
Alfie delighted soap fans when he made a shock return to Walford in May 2018, after a two year break from the soap.
In 2016 he left Walford with Kat after they won £1million on a scratchcard.
Before he left the soap he was diagnosed with a brain tumour but had surgery to save his life in Ireland.
The couple then moved to Spain.
He returned as part of Hayley Slater's pregnancy storyline, following their one-night stand in Spain.
Yet he is now on the run after scamming Phil.
He faked his own death and fled Walford but, showing his love for Kat, left her a clue so she could locate a portion of the cash he stole from Phil.
With a number of loose ends yet to be resolved, a return could make for an explosive storyline in the East End.
