EastEnders Shona McGarty back into dating two years after split from fiancé

EastEnders star Shona McGarty has revealed she is thinking of getting back out into the dating scene more than two years after she ended her engagement.

Shona, who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC soap, was engaged to electrician Ryan for 18 months before the pair called time on their relationship after the spark fizzled out in late 2019.

The 30-year-old shared the announcement that her engagement was off one month later in January 2020 two years after they declared the happy news online.

Now, after spending more than a year as a singleton, the actress has admitted that she is ready to get back into dating again but can't face signing up to any apps to find her special someone.

Shona confessed that dating has been harder than ever over the past two years following the global pandemic which came into full effect in March 2020.

She opened up about her struggled with Fabulous magazine as she revealed that internet dating won't be an avenue she goes down.

The star told the publication: "It's been quite hard to date this year, and I've actually never been on a proper date because I find it awkward. I prefer it when things are natural.

"Tinder is just not for me. What would I put on the profile? 'Likes eating Monster Munch in bed? Taking long baths?'

"Forget swipe right, they'd delete the app," she joked. "I have tried one dating app before, I can't remember which one but… no."

Although she admitted that some of her best friends have successfully found love online, Shona added: "I'm much more of a people person, I like to meet someone in real life."

Shona and Ryan had been in a relationship for five years before he decided to get down on one knee and pop the question.

When the star opened up in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star last January, the actress explained that the wedding and their relationship was over.

Speaking at the time, she explained: "Nothing bad happened, it was all very amicable.

"We were together for a long time, but it just wasn't meant to be."
