Emmerdale's Kathy Glover star Malandra Burrows has recently announced her battle with cancer.

The actress starred as Kathy on the ITV soap for over 20 years and opened up to daytime host Lorraine Kelly about her experience.

On Wednesday's programme (May 11), Malandra, 56, spoke candidly about her cancer diagnosis and even said how Ant and Dec have helped her through it.

Lorraine asked the star: "You have been so brave and positive, Malandra.

"You were saying the positivity comes from when you spent some time with Ant and Dec?"

To which she replied: "Absolutely I think I would have hit this journey not knowing if I was going to crumble or not.

"And I remember just before I was diagnosed, walking into the Macmillan suite and being greeted by a Macmillan nurse and she broke down in tears telling me I had cancer.

"And I said 'look I've been in the jungle with Ant and Dec. I can do anything. I'm going to fight this and I'm going to ring that bell'.

"And that's exactly what I said and that's what I'm going to do."

The soap star added: "So yes, being in that jungle and the things Ant and Dec put me through, I didn't know it was going to serve me good now, did I?"

"But it has done, and so yeah, I'm straight into battle mode," she bravely explained.

Malandra continued: "And I had to mention my other great inspiration which has to be the wonderful and incredibly amazing Deborah James, lots of love to you sweetheart and thank you for the inspiration you've given me."

Lorraine then said: " Aww, that's so lovely that will mean the world to her as well her campaigning has been astonishing and life-saving."

ITV's Lorraine continues weekdays at 9am.
