Emmerdale's Kim Tate will be scared of son Jamie's dark side when she returns reveals Claire King

EMMERDALE'S Kim Tate will be scared of her son Jamie's new dark side when she returns to the village, star Claire King has revealed.

The actress – who has played superbitch Kim in the ITV soap since 1989 – has said Kim won't know how to handle Jamie now he's become just as scheming and conniving as she is.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, Claire said: "It will be quite scary for her.

"She could manipulate him when he was softer. And she does like to manipulate people, she pokes bears a lot to get reactions.

"It's to judge people, to see how they will react and how strong they are going to be in standing up to her – whether she can trample over them, manipulate them or whether they'll be an adversary like Cain for example.

"It will be a bit of a shock for her to discover that Jamie's got this tougher side to him.

"But I don't think she'll be surprised because she's created it within him."

Viewers have watched as Jamie has grown increasingly darker over the last year as his mother's influence has swayed him.

Claire, who is nominated for the Best Villain gong at this year's Inside Soap Awards, also revealed how Jamie's new darkness has been helped by Kim's absence.

"I think he got most of my lines," she laughed referencing her last minute break during the pandemic when she had to shield.

"But it's great for him. I think he's quite pleased he's got the lines. He's embracing his inner Tate and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, let's face it."

And after a decade long stint made Kim one of the most iconic soap characters in history, Claire returned in 2018 after almost 20 years away.

It has seen Kim pitted against the likes of EastEnders' abusive murderer Gray Atkins and Coronation Street's controlling monster Geoff Metcalfe for the Best Villain awards – but Claire points out that Kim can more than hold her own against them.

"In Kim's defence she is consistent – she doesn't stop," Claire said.

"These others come in, be a bit nasty for a year and then disappear or die or get sent to prison, but Kim is constantly there being nasty."
