Gregg Wallace, 55, reveals he lost weight because wife Anne-Marie, 34, didn't want a 'fat old husband'

GREGG Wallace has revealed the inspiration behind his four stone weight loss – his gorgeous wife Anne-Marie Sterpini.

The Masterchef host, 55, showed off his amazing weight loss last month and has now opened up about why he slimmed down.

He was inspired to get "fit and healthy" mainly to be able to see his son, Sid, 16 months, grow up.

Doctors had give Gregg a pretty serious warning that if he didn't do something about his weight, he was on the fast track to a heart attack.

"Having my baby boy made me want to be fit and strong. I can now go for long walks, which I wouldn't have been able to do before," he told Closer magazine.

He also pointed to the two decade age difference between him and his wife as another major reason for getting into shape.

"Anne being younger than me was even more of an inspiration to be fit – you can have an old husband but she didn't have to have a fat, old husband," Gregg revealed.

The real threat of illness has pushed Gregg to keep up his healthier lifestyle no matter what.

"There are days when I lack motivation – but I still workout. I just look in the mirror and think 'I'm 55 and I'm stronger now than I was at 25'," he said.

"I still struggle with some exercises, but I'm leaner now since lockdown."

Gregg also said those trying to lose weight should not be too hard on themselves when the "slip up" from their diet.

"When we slip up we tend to chuck it all in, but that’s not the way. You’re going to slip up. You’re going to go to the pub, drink too much and get a kebab on the way home," he advised.

"There is no way I’m going through the week without a pint of beer. But I’m careful most of the time and here I am, as fit as a butcher’s dog."

The telly star married wife Anne-Marie, 34, in 2016 after they met on Twitter – shared pictures of his impressive physique on his Instagram page.

The Masterchef star has been urging fans to sign up to his new healthy eating and exercise plan using himself as the example of how they can turn their lives around.

He recently declared on the site: "If I can lose 4 stone I can show you how to lose 1 stone easy!"

The star, who used to be 16½st, decided to overhaul his life a few years ago – after admitting he was drinking booze most days and frequently ordering takeaways.

In 2017, Gregg opened up to The Sun about his decision to lose weight – and shared his tips and tricks for maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

The chef said: "I made a conscious decision to cut down on fried and high sugar foods, as well as booze — which helped me lose weight.

“When I was at my biggest I was having a daily fry up, fish and chips once per week, takeaway a couple more times and drinking beer nearly every day. At first, I felt like I was missing out.

“But my body got used to what I was giving it and yours will too.”

Sharing his advice on sticking to a diet, the star added: "Don’t cut out things you like – it will just make you miserable.

“I’m a huge fan of curries, chillies and stews and it is still possible to lose weight and eat hearty meals.

“Think about cooking with meats such as chicken and pork — all the things that don’t have much fat.

“Use lean mince to make chillies, fill up with tasty stews stuffed full of healthy, low-calorie veg.

“Try putting a chicken on a baking tray with potatoes, onions and olive oil and leaving it in the oven for a couple of hours.

"Serve it with a portion of steamed veg — which doesn’t take long to do at all — and it’s a balanced, healthy and good value meal, suitable for the whole family. These ingredients are basic and all in your supermarket.”
