How old is Tim Westwood, what's his net worth, did he inspire Ali G and when was the Kennington shooting?

TIM Westwood is a former Radio 1 DJ and was an influence for one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s most famous creations.

But what’s his net worth? And when was he shot? Here's all you need to know.

Who is DJ Tim Westwood?

Westwood was born October 30, 1957, and is an English DJ and TV and radio presenter.

He is the son of former Anglican Bishop of Peterborough, Bill Westwood.

He grew up around East Anglia, and attended the independent Norwich School.

During his career Tim has DJed for many radio stations, including the newly formed radio stations Kiss FM (which he co-owned) and LWR in the 1980s, followed by mainstream station Capital FM (from 1987).

In December 1994, following a shake up of Radio 1 by the then chief executive Matthew Bannister, he became the station's first Rap Show presenter.

He has been accused in the media of giving false statements about his age and background.

In 2000, at the age of 43, Westwood insisted to a Guardian journalist that he was aged 27.

In the 90s Sacha Baron Cohen was famous for his character Ali G.

The actor has stated that Westwood was an influence on the development of his character.

He said he copied his faux Multicultural London English and hip hop dialect.

Ali G's middle-class credentials mirror Westwood's.

In 1999 Westwood was the target of a drive-by shooting.

Gunmen on a motorbike pulled up alongside his Range Rover in Kennington, South London and opened fire.

Speaking about the attack he said: “A bullet went through the back of my seat an inch from my spine.

“Another bullet went through my arm and missed the nerves which would have left me paralysed.

"The guy in the back seat had his kneecap blown off. Am I not blessed? Thank God I’m alive and everyone survived.”

What is Tim Westwood's net worth?

Westwood amassed a fortune during his time in the spotlight.

It was reported in 2018 that he had an estimated worth of £9 million.

He made his money through his work as a DJ and album sales.

What are the allegations against Tim Westwood?

In April 2022 it was revealed that Westwood was facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Accusers said the former Radio 1 DJ abused his position in the industry to exploit women by "flashing and groping" them.

He is accused of unwanted sexual behaviour and touching that occurred on dates between 1992 and 2017.

Westwood vehemently denies the claims made against him.

As part of a joint investigation, the BBC and the Guardian have allegedly heard detailed accounts from seven women.

Two of the women say they agreed to come to London to meet him to discuss music, but allege that he drove them to a flat to initiate unwanted sex instead.

One of them was 19 at the time, while he was 53.

Another woman says she met the DJ when she was 17 and part of an R&B group and he was in his mid-30s.

She alleges Westwood performed an unwanted sex act on her.

Four more women have accused him of either touching their bottoms or breasts while they posed for photographs with him at different events he was performing at.
