I’m A Celebrity stars pictured filming abseil and first gruesome challenge
The stars of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 have been photographed filming their first couple of mortifying challenges… and we definitely don’t envy them.
When it was announced that this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity on ITV was moving from Australia to Wales, the news immediately made us think how the celebrities would fare in cooler, windier climates than the contestants on the show are typically used to.
And now, we’ve been granted our first look at how celebrities including podcaster Giovanna Fletcher, former Strictly star AJ Pritchard and presenter Vernon Kay are getting on.
In new pictures, the celebrities could be seen bundled up in warm layers and safety gear as they prepared to take on their first scary task of the series.
While the stars of I’m A Celebrity usually mark their arrivals by jumping out of a helicopter, this year they tested their fear of heights with an abseil instead.
Before their first challenge, five of the celebrities were flown by helicopter over Snowdonia, before being dropped off at the bottom of a cliff.
The other five celebrities were driven by jeep to the top of the cliff, before discovering that they needed to pair up with the other half of the cast to retrieve 10 rucksacks hanging over the edge of the cliff.
As the celebrities abseiled down the cliff face, they needed to answer questions about their campmates in order to unlock the rucksacks.
In pictures released ahead of the series launch, AJ appeared to look nervous as he peered up at the great height they need to climb down.
Giovanna, on the other hand, looked like she was in high spirits the whole way down, beaming from ear to ear while still wearing her own clothes underneath her safety gear.
The author appeared to have also already formed a close bond with British athlete Hollie Arnold MBE, who was photographed hugging her on the ground below.
TV presenter Vernon also looked like he was trying to maintain his composure as he prepared for the first daunting task of the series, waving from above before scaling down the rocky surface.
Once the celebrities arrived at the castle, it was time for them to change out of their everyday clothes into matching red and blue uniforms, before taking on their first bug-filled trial.
Jordan couldn’t believe his eyes when he arrived at the venue, stating: ‘This is actually a proper castle.’
Victoria, meanwhile, checked out the beds they would be sleeping on, saying they felt ‘as hard as nails’.
After arriving at the castle, the contestants took part in a grisly trial, aptly named ‘The Gates to Hell’.
In what looks like the dead of the night, thy were pictured caged up alongside one another, Gwrych Castle standing sinisterly in the background.
The campmates had to work as a team to move 10 stars from one side to the other, with each star representing a meal for the camp.
They had just 12 minutes to complete the task, all the while having bugs poured all over them as they tried to concentrate.
Olympian Sir Mo Farah looks like he was in deep concentration during the challenge, not letting any amount of creepy crawlies cascading on his shoulders stop him from focusing on the task at hand.
However, one photograph seemed to have caught the athlete in a moment of panic, as he looked up in fearful anticipation of what may be dropped on him when he was least expecting it.
Giovanna commented that she could feel cockroaches ‘down my knickers’ during the task, as she kept on going.
Meanwhile, radio presenter Jordan North didn’t look like he was having the best of times, shouting as what looked like maggots landed on the back of his neck and in his hair.
Nonetheless, the cast of I’m A Celebrity 2020 were all smiles as they talked to co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly outside the castle.
Whether or not those smiles will remain plastered on their faces once they’ve spent a night in freezing conditions remains to be seen!
I’m A Celebrity returns on Saturday 15 November at 9pm on ITV.
