It Chapter Two runtime was an hour LONGER than Avengers Endgame: Here’s what it is now

At over 1000 pages long, it’s hardly surprising that Stephen King’s epic horror novel has been split into two cinematic movies. Two years ago, the box office smash It clocked in at two hours and 15 minutes. And now its follow up is almost as long as the three-hour Avengers Endgame at two hours and 45 minutes. However, director Andy Muschietti has revealed the original cut was a whopping four hours.

According to Digital Spy, he said: “A movie is very different when you’re writing the script and you’re building a story compared to what the final product is.

“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. “However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s four hours long, you realise that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact.

“You cannot deliver a four-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is two hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good.

Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint.”

But with over an hour of cut footage, Pennywise fans can expect a director’s cut in the future.

Producer Barbara Muschietti said: “We will put out a director’s cut because this time it definitely merits it.

“We have some amazing scenes that didn’t make it into the movie.

“You have to make choices sometimes and some things cannot be in this theatrical release but are definitely worthy of people seeing them at a later date.”

IT CHAPTER TWO INTERACTIVE HORROR EXPERIENCE COMES TO LONDON

Meanwhile, It Chapter Two has been given an R-rating in the USA due to the depiction of “disturbing violence.”

The Motion Picture Association of America’s listing reads: “Rated R for disturbing violent content and bloody images throughout, pervasive language, and some crude sexual material.”

Presumably, the horror will have a 15-certificate, just like the first movie.

It Chapter Two is released in UK cinemas on September 6, 2019.
