On Saturday, all 15 celebrities took to the dance floor in a bid to impress the Strictly Come Dancing judges. Each star had to show off their dance moves as they fought to stay in the BBC competition. However, Sunday’s instalment saw former EastEnders star Nina Wadia and Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn in the bottom two, meaning they both had to face the dance-off. Although, after a vote, the judges chose to save Katie.

During Monday’s Steph’s Packed Lunch, John Whaite and his professional dance partner Johannes Radebe spoke with host Steph McGovern via video link about Nina’s exit.

“It was awful. It was just really gut wrenching,” the chef began.

“To see them come back from the dance-off with every single ounce of energy they’ve got.

“She just gave everything she got.”

He continued to reference their goodbye off-screen: “I know that Nina and Neil had so much more to show the world.

“And on the WhatsApp group, we are all absolutely gutted that she’s gone.

“We will miss her. So, if you’re watching, Nina. I’m sure you’re not but if you are we love you and we miss you so much.”

On Saturday night, Nina and her dance partner Neil Jones performed the Tango.

The duo faced mixed reviews from the judges with Anton du Beke pointing out she made a “few mistakes”.

“When anybody makes mistakes, I get twitchy as I’ve lived through those,” the judge explained.

“Your body position as a whole is quite good, when you take hold, I feel really comfortable watching you.

“It looks nice, but your head needs a bit of work.”

He continued: “It gets a bit straight, so what I want you to do is keep your head on the same line as your spine.

“So, you make a nice line with your spine and leave the head as a continuation of that line.”

Craig Revel Horwood didn’t hold back with his comments as he told the former soap star her frame “wasn’t great”.

“The footwork was extremely ropey,” he explained before adding: “I don’t think this was your dance, my love.”

Despite the negative comments, Motsi Mabuse tried to give Nina some constructive criticism: “I felt there was such a strong commitment. Commitment to character.

“I can see you work hard. I can see the effort.”

Shirley Ballas went on to praise Nina as she said: “You started off well. The thing is you did make one or two mistakes, but you picked it up again.”

When it came to the voting, Neil and Nina scored 18 from the judges.

However, it wasn’t enough to save the actress as she was placed in the bottom two with Katie.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
