James Bond: Gemma Arterton says her Bond Girl should have ‘said no’ to 007’s seduction

James Bond appears in dramatic car chase in Quantum of Solace

James Bond has shown off an eclectic line-up of Bond Girls over the decades. Daniel Craig’s run of 007 movies has seen him hooking up with some notable actors on-screen during the process, including Eva Green, Naomi Harris, and Lea Sydoux. The 2008 spy movie Quantum of Solace has widely been lauded as one of the biggest failures of the Bond franchise, claiming a meagre $589 million at the box office, vs some of the later Craig movies which grossed upwards of $900 million.

Quantum of Solace introduced Strawberry Fields, an MI6 agent played by Gemma Arterton.

Although Arterton gave a memorable performance in the film, she has since come out to explain how she was criticised for taking the role.

What’s more, the 34-year-old also explained she now disagrees with the actions Strawberry took in the movie.

During the film, Strawberry and Bond hold up in a 5-star hotel whilst undercover.

During this interaction Bond goes on to “seduce” the agent, claiming he would find her “something to wear” at an upcoming party.

Arterton has now explained she wished Strawberry had simply refused his advances.

Speaking in a recent interview, Arterton explained: “At the beginning of my career, I was poor as a church mouse and I was happy just to be able to work and earn a living.

“I still get criticism for accepting Quantum Of Solace, but I was 21, I had a student loan, and you, know, it was a Bond film.”

Strictly open the show with James Bond themed performance

Going on to criticise the idea of Bond women entirely, Arterton continued: “But as I got older I realised there was so much wrong with Bond women.

“Strawberry should have just said no, really, and worn flat shoes.”

While the British actor was not too pleased with how her character was portrayed, fellow “Bond Girl” Naomi Harris may experience a promotion in the franchise going forward.

According to industry insiders, the 007 brand is being looked at by streaming services to take on a brand new TV show inspired by the man of mystery.

According to the Sunday Express, an insider claimed: “As can be seen with Disney’s ownership of Marvel and Star Wars, the potential high purchase price will be a drop in the martini for any new owner of MGM and Bond.

“The real value is in the exploitation of the 007 [intellectual property]. From merchandise, clothing, toys to parallel TV series, webisodes and spin-off movies.

“Any new owner of the Rolls-Royce of film franchises could reap a windfall that would make Goldfinger blush.”

The insider later claimed the Bond producers have long considered a spin-off series of films involving Moneypenny – Harris.

Harris has played Moneypenny since Skyfall in 2012, going on to reprise her role in Spectre, and the upcoming No Time To Die.

Harris is being joined in No Time To Die by Lashana Lynch, who is playing a new 007, Nomi.

No Time To Die is due for release on April 2, 2021.
