Jenni 'JWoww' Farley Doesn't Understand Why 'Jersey Shore' Fans Like Her

Jenni “JWoww” Farley is a reality TV icon thanks to Jersey Shore and Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. Ironically, Farley has a hard time understanding why fans enjoy her Jersey Shore antics so much.

‘Jersey Shore’ made Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley a household name

In 2009, MTV changed the face of reality television by introducing the world to eight guidos and guidettes. Among them was Farley, a New York native who wanted nothing more than to have a good time at the Jersey Shore.

“When we all got together season 1, we created such an iconic house of weird guidos,” Farley said in a YouTube video. “It just worked.”

Before becoming an idolized reality star, Farley was working at a club called Origins. Casting crews discovered Farley when she applied to be on Paris Hilton My New BFF. Casting directors thought Farley was a better fit for Jersey Shore, and the rest is history.

‘Jersey Shore’ is an unscripted reality series

For years, people have assumed Jersey Shore is a scripted series. Surely a group of guidos and guidettes couldn’t be that rambunctious — could they? Celebrating 10 years of Jersey Shore, Pauly DelVecchio came out with the truth.

“We don’t have a script,” the DJ explained to Bustle. “Never had a script for 10 years, not even a little bit. Not even a little bit. Everything that happen[s] that we were watching, that sh*t happened.”

Sometimes, that footage can be tough to watch back. But that’s reality TV for you.

MTV tried to maintain ‘Jersey Shore’s authenticity for years

Farley has been extremely open about her journey as an MTV reality star. Often, she’ll post Q&A videos on her YouTube about Jersey Shore. In a recent post, Farley discussed how, as a network, MTV tried their hardest to maintain the “innocence” of the Jersey Shore cast.

“I’ll be honest; it’s very weird for me to be recognized for a popular reality TV show because the first six seasons of the original Jersey Shore, we had no idea how popular and famous we really were,” Farley explained. “MTV really tried to hold [a] protective parental umbrella over us because they didn’t want it to take away from how original and authentic we were as a cast. They did a phenomenal job.”

Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley says her fame makes her ‘introverted’

Today, Farley isn’t drinking nearly as much or peeing behind bars like she used to on the early days of Jersey Shore. But despite being the mom of two, Farley still considers herself a “degenerate” and can’t fully fathom why her fans like her so much.

“To know that I’m famous for being me actually makes me super introverted because I’m like, ‘Why do you like me? I’m just a degenerate,’” Farley admitted in her video. She corrected herself, saying she is a “super degenerate” who is “still trying to figure out life at 36-years-old.”

Despite being a “degenerate” many people admire, Farley wouldn’t change her career in reality TV for the world.

“I believe in the butterfly effect, so I don’t want to change too much because I love who I am today and where I am today,” she said. “My kids are a result of Jersey Shore, so I am forever thankful for the children that I have.”

Farley is also grateful for the long-term relationships she developed over the years with her roommates and the crew who work on Jersey Shore

“They’re my family,” she concluded.
