Kym Marsh revealed that she is taking a break from her hosting duties on Morning Live to focus on her family.

It comes after her dad's cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

On Friday's show, the former Coronation Street star, 45, explained the reasons for her absence in recent weeks and also explained that her anxiety attacks, which she suffered from early on in her career, have returned "with a vengeance".

Speaking in a video, Kym said: "I've suffered with anxiety attacks in the past and they've come back with a vengeance.

"Life's been pretty difficult for me. I need to make a choice here about what I'm going to do. I decided to step back from Morning Live to focus on my nearest and dearest."

Explaining her absence from the BBC morning show, Kym said: "For now I'm just gonna take each day as it comes and not put any pressure on myself.

"So I'll, I'll check in on the Morning Live family with my own family for now."

Speaking to co-star Gethin Jones, who has been presenting the show with Janette Manrara, Kym added: "Don’t be getting too comfortable without me, please.

She added: "I'll see you on the dance floor at the wedding” – referring to her upcoming marriage to Scott Ratcliff.

Opening up on the tough time for her family in recent times, Kym said: "You might have noticed I’ve not been around much since the end of July – well there’s been some very good reasons for that.

“I think it’s fair to say the last few months have been ridiculously busy with one thing or another for me and my family.

“Starting with the beginning of the year when I had my double hernia op which should have been much more straight forward than it was.

“Then we found out my dad has cancer and then we caught Covid.

"Everybody got it, we were like a house of dominos it was horrible it was a nasty cough for me and temperature."

She then went on to explain a terrifying incident with daughter Polly, 10.

The former soap star said: “The scariest thing was Polly.

"She had one night where her temperature shot up to nearly 40 degrees and it was really scary because she was shivering but absolutely burning hot.”

Morning Live fans took to Twitter to send Kym messages of support and love after her video aired.
