Law and Order’s hit spin-off focuses on the Special Victims Unit and throughout its 23 years on air, there have been a number of surprise cameos, however, none have impressed fans as much as the most recent featuring in episode 10. Star Donal Logue temporarily reprised his role as Declan Murphy and the emotional reunion left viewers asking for more.

Declan Murphy (played by Donal Logue) was introduced to CBS streamers in 2014 as an NYPD captain who frequently underwent undercover assignments.

After leaving the show in 2015, Murphy accepted a role on Gotham before Law and Order bosses offered him a permanent role.

However, much to his fans’ surprise Murphy reprised his role as Declan for episode 10 as the newest captain in the Hate Crimes Division.

He expressed his goal was “to help solve a spate of crimes hitting almost every borough of the city”.

This came after a man publicly denounced racist views as a number of random attacks were taken out on properties and minorities in New York City.

To successfully carry out the operation, Murphy gathered an expert team of detectives on Christmas Eve which included newcomer Jason Biggs who played detective Andy Parlato-Goldstein.

However, this wasn’t the only mission on Murphy’s mind as he also had some personal business on his mind.

In season 17, before his departure, Murphy learned he was the father of Detective Amanda Rollins’ (Kelli Giddish) daughter, Jesse.

Although he provided unconditional support, Murphy was called on an undercover assignment and didn’t return.

Viewers watched the emotional scene as the two reunited for the first time since 2015 and demanded they share more screen time.

Taking to Twitter, Sam_Wilson3737 expressed: “Loved seeing @donallogueagain! I hope that was a backdoor spinoff for Captain Murphy and his team.”

HWoodWorldSport tweeted: “I think Amanda Rollins and Declan Murphy still have a lot of unfinished business. We need more of Murphy back on the show.”

TRACEYkicksCULO added: “Part of me feels like last night #LawAndOrderSVU introduced us to the new cast of Law and Order season 21 lead by Declan Murphy and Jason Brigg’s detective Goldstein.”

Trillaracherly shared: “Baby Daddy Declan Murphy is back!!! #SVU I’ve been waiting for his return.”

While MaggieWilms tweeted the actor: “You are soo good as Captain Murphy. Hope to see you and your squad more on SVU or get your own show. SVU, Organized Crime, and Hate Crimes! Would be epic!”

However, Murphy wasn’t the only familiar face to loyal viewers as Sergeant Hasim Khaldun (Ari’el Stachel) returned after his appearances in seasons 22 and 23.

Detective Mia Ruz (Cyndee Rivera) also made a comeback to the series, after she was first introduced working under Carolyn Barek at the Bronx Special Victims Unit.

While Donal was cast as a guest star, it’s yet to be seen if he will permanently return as Murphy.

Hopefully, viewers can convince showrunners to explore more of the Murphy and Rollins storyline.

Law and Order SVU continues Thursday on NBC.
