Law and Order: SVU fans are patiently waiting for the tense next episode of the hit NBC police drama. However, many are worried that the return of a dangerous character could mean trouble for Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and her team.
The long-running crime series has seen its fair share of horrific crimes, yet in the season 14 episode Born Psychopath, the squad was called to a family’s home to investigate the suspicious injuries of the youngest daughter.
It is revealed that the mother (Hope Davis) is struggling to control her violent 10 year old son Henry Mesner (Ethan Cutkosky).
The team suspect that the young boy is a psychopath and their suspicions are confirmed by Dr Huang (BD Wong), who specialises in child psychiatry.
However, before Henry is due to be taken to a facility to better handle his needs, Henry takes a young child hostage and holds a gun on former detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino).
Amaro was able to rescue the hostage, however, he was shot in the stomach by Henry.
Thankfully, Amaro was wearing a vest and only sustained minor injuries, and he was able to grab the gun from Henry and save him as well.
After the incident, Henry’s family were informed that he would be charged with juvenile delinquency and be locked up until he was 18 years old.
However, a recent promo trailer for the upcoming season 22 episode Post-Graduate Psychopath, sees Henry return to the show as he has just had his eighteenth birthday.
By the looks of the promo, Henry appears incredibly angry towards the SVU squad for putting him away all those years ago.
Captain Olivia Benson and Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) clearly remember the case and they both are tasked with searching for the boy after he goes missing.
“How can they not know where he is?” A panicked Benson says to Rollins.
Before adding: “He’s on a spree”.
“He tried to kill his sister and shot a cop,” a voiceover of retired Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) informs viewers in the trailer.
Benson appears worried at the situation at hand, telling the team: “He was 10 years old”.
However, the grown Henry is now out in New York City and creating havoc wherever he goes.
Rollins says to him: “Are you getting back at everyone who hurt you?”
“Not yet,” a threatening Henry replies, insinuating that someone on the team will get hurt soon.
Rollins is seen in the promo searching for Henry, but she appears to run into trouble and is forced to hide.
Is Rollins hiding from Henry, and is her life in grave danger?
Rollins originally worked on the case in season 14 so Henry would know that she is one of the detectives he is hunting.
One fan wrote on YouTube in response to the trailer, saying: “My gosh I remember that kid, the anxiety was so intense”.
Who of the SVU members will survive Henry’s killing spree?
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is currently airing season 22 on NBC in the US. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
