Chloe (played by April Rose Pengilly) has had a tough year on Neighbours, what with her divorce from Pierce Greyson (Don Hany) being finalised, her mother dying from the same illness she has inherited, and her romance with Nicolette Stone (Charlotte Chimes) has been challenging. The beloved character will be looking for things to be on the up in the New Year, what with her niece Isla keeping her busy and her career progressing up the ladder at Lassiters Hotel. However, she may well be caught up in one of the worst storms to hit the Channel 5 soap in recent years, and viewers could be bidding farewell to the unlucky-in-love Ramsay Street resident.

Following the cliff-hanger ending to the weekday serial drama which aired earlier this month, the creators behind the drama gave viewers a sneak peek of what’s to come in 2022.

Amongst the relationship dramas and hints of new arrivals stirring trouble in Erinsborough, a huge storm descending on Ramsay Street was also spoken about.

Beloved characters are seen running into their homes as they try to seek shelter but the words, “Someone will die”, flashed across the screen at the same time.

Just before the trailer ends, some mourners are seen gathering for the funeral of a loved one and although this came straight after the storm drama, it’s not been confirmed the death will happen because of the deadly weather conditions.

However, if the harsh winds and torrential rain do have something to do with it, Chloe might be at risk of making an exit as she tries to save her loved ones.

Since breaking up with Nicolette earlier this year, Chloe has done everything in her power to try and get her girlfriend back on her side.

They have shared some tender moments, which led to a kiss just before Christmas, but by the time the show went off the air, they decided to remain friends.

Just as the storm hits, though, Chloe could see this as her time to finally win her lover back, but it could have deadly consequences.

As she escorts Nicolette and baby Isla to safety, she could realise one of the doors to the house has blown open and needs to be shut.

Knowing she is the person who has less to lose, the beloved character could take on the dangerous mission, just as it seems a tornado is going to pass by.

See where that takes her

Although she might not get swept up by the wind, the falling debris could hit her around the head and cause her to die.

As the dust settles and realising Chloe never came back, Nicolette could be left heartbroken to discover her former lover’s dead body.

Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) has already lost so much over the last couple of years and this could break him as his sister bids a heartbreaking farewell.

The Brennan family would have to come together to give their sister the send-off she deserves after dying a hero to save others.

Will Nicolette begin to feel guilt, however, as she realises Chloe did truly love her? Will she regret not giving their relationship another chance?

The actress who plays Chloe, April, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about her hopes for her character in the future.

April explained: “I would love for Chloe to get back into her groove and feel herself again, get to have a bit of fun.

“Maybe have a few flings, romantically and just get to be her jokey, sassy self again and see where that takes her.”

Although this all sounds positive for the quirky character, it could be a red-herring to what is set to unfold on Ramsay Street.

In a huge U-turn on what April said, could it be that Chloe will get none of this as she perishes in the deadly storm?

It has not been confirmed by the show, or the actress herself, whether she will be leaving the show for good in the New Year.

April has previously spoken out on getting the role of Chloe, stating she was one of the final candidates bosses were wanting to play the character.

In the end, it was between her and Bonnie Anderson, who previously played Bea Nilsson on the show before her exit earlier this year.

The soap star explained in a touching Instagram post paying tribute to her co-star that the role of Bea was created just for Bonnie.

“In the end, they decided that I was more of a Chloe, but they wrote a new role just for her because they loved her so much – and it isn’t hard to see why!”

Taking to Twitter, viewers have been sharing their theories on who could die in the storm with Chloe seemingly further down the list than some of the other residents.

Robin wrote: “Wait a minute, an Australian soap doing a storyline where someone dies in a storm? Well, that’s original.”

Dan added: “Oh my f***ing Go. The trailer for the New Year on #neighbours is crazy. Someone is going to die due to a storm and I hope it’s not one of my favourites.”

“As long as it’s not Paul, Sheila or Kyle who dies then I’m looking forward to it #Neighbours, Bouncergirl remarked.

Victoria shared: “Terese better not die! #Neighbours.”

Neighbours will return Monday January 3, 2022, at 1pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
