Piers Morgan left concerned as he’s told GMB is ‘hanging by a thread’ on air

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid were left red-faced and really confused when they first came on Good Morning Britain today.

After taking over from Ranvir Singh, the pair came on and within seconds of them being on screen, Piers kicked the show off by venting his concerns after he revealed the conversations which had taken place with producers before the camera started rolling.

The host recalled how just seconds before he started filming, a producer shouted that the ITV show is "hanging by a thread" as he rallied the cast.

The camera then panned each host, including weather woman Laura Tobin, who could be seen laughing or giggling over the producers marks.

Piers then questioned if the show is being taken off air, he asked: "Are we being cancelled?"

The star recalled how the show's director shouted things in his ear prior to the cameras rolling as something had gone wrong behind the scenes.

Susanna and Piers chatted briefly about what they thought the error which sent their director into a bad mood could have been.

Piers said: "It was probably something small like a technical glitch."

The pair then quizzed the director live on air but he refused to answer what went wrong behind the scenes.

Piers then went on to reveal what the director and producers shout into their ear pieces.

Piers commented: "Just to put into context what we get in our ear.

"You're probably imagining at home it is just calm, and quiet and not much going on… it's a constant stream of consciousness from our director who is emotionally erratic."

Susanna looked confused before adding: "Well, on the edge I think is the phrase."

Piers then explained: "He literally, just as we were about to come on air, we all heard the words 'this show is hanging by a thread!'

"What? What do you mean, is it being cancelled? What do you mean? It will be some sort of technical glitch no one else would have spotted."

Susanna and Piers then asked the director to speak to the viewers to explain what had apparently gone wrong – but he instead praised the stars and kept the news to himself.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
