Cartel thriller Queen of the South delivered its most exciting twist yet last year by finally bringing James Valdez back in the fold. With fans divided over the possibility of James and Teresa reigniting their romance, the USA Network drama has been teasing their reunion on Instagram.
James Valdez star Peter Gadiot is finally back on set after almost an entire season’s absence from Queen of the South.
The star has confirmed to have landed in New Orleans to continue filming after production was put on hold to make way for the coronavirus pandemic.
Now the series’ schedule has returned to normal and potentially eying a release date next summer.
Lead star Alice Braga took to her Instagram story this week to confirm his arrival, which could lay out some tantalising details for the upcoming season.
Fans were gripped by the latest season’s change of pace, which saw Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) move her operations to the Big Easy.
After emerging from a coma and mourning the loss of her grandson, Tony Parra (Julian Silva), Teresa will need her wits about her to take down her ruthless new rival, Judge Lafayette (David Andrews).
However, her plans were thrown a major curveball in the final episode of season four.
Clutching a nasty gunshot wound, Teresa’s former partner and ex-boyfriend James Valdez emerged being pursued by an unknown threat.
Following his painful departure at the end of season three, his return to the series could also preempt the return of the drug mogul’s former employer, Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcón).
On the other hand, most fans are more concerned by the possibility of Teresa and James rekindling their romance from the previous season.
The pair bonded after the death of Teresa’s other boyfriend, Guero Davilas (Jon-Michael Ecker), but the relationship fell apart after the suspicious drug queen questioned his loyalty.
Now the series has brought the dysfunctional pair back together, could they have learned from their mistakes enough to give their relationship another shot?

Braga’s new post featured James star Peter Gadiot looking as smouldering as heavy in his character’s signature leather jacket.
He’s also joined by a potential new addition to Teresa’s operation, a gorgeous ginger tabby cat, though this could just be an on-set pet to keep the cast and crew company.
The Queen of the South star prompted excitement from fans, tagging the new post: “Okay ladies, you can get crazy.”
Her Instagram story comes after new showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez confirmed James would be sticking around for the entire season.
With some viewers concerned Gadiot would only be returning for a cameo appearance in the season premiere, it’s encouraging to know James Valdez has plenty more moments to come in the next season.
Confirmation of his return as a series regular has also got the rumour mill turning about Teresa and James picking up where they left off in season three.
Teresa still needs to face off against the Judge, but will Queen of the South’s fifth instalment find room for the duo’s epic love story?
