Shameless ending after season 11 as star William H. Macy copes with wife Felicity Huffman’s college scandal – The Sun
SHAMELESS is coming to an end after 11 seasons.
Showtime announced today that the show will be renewed for an eleventh season, but that it will also be its last.
The Showtime president of entertainment Gary Levine made the announcement at the network’s Television Critics’ Association press tour day.
He said: "The characters of ‘Shameless' have brought Showtime viewers more laughs and tears and pure enjoyment than any program in our history.
"While we are sad to bid the Gallaghers farewell, we couldn’t be more confident in the ability of showrunner John Wells, his writing team and this great cast to bring our series to its appropriately ‘Shameless' conclusion."
Shameless is Showtime's longest-running show so far.
Executive producer John Wells also talked about the show's finale.
He said: "I’m unbelievably thankful for all of the years of support from Gary Levine and everyone at Showtime that’s allowed us to make Shameless.
"It’s been a fantastic experience and all of us in the cast and crew have had a wonderful time following the lives of the Gallagher family and friends. It’s been a pleasure!"
The show currently stars William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Christian Isaiah, Noel Fisher and Kate Miner.
It follows the lives of the Gallagher family with William acting as the patriarch of the family, Frank Gallagher.
Emmy Rossum used to also be part of the show but quit after nine seasons.
Shameless stars also took to Twitter to express their thoughts on this being the last season of the show.
Cameron shared the tweet announcing the last season and wrote: "Goodbye."
William followed and wrote: "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
Emma, on the other hand, wrote: "One. Last. Hoorah. Shameless season 11: our final season. Thank you, Showtime, for keeping us employed the last 11 years and letting everyone party with the Gallagher’s, too.
"And thank you guys for sticking with us for so long through all of our ups and downs. So bittersweet!"
William H. Macy is currently supporting wife Felicity Huffman after she was one of 50 people implicated in the largest-ever college-admissions scam prosecuted by the Justice Department.
However, he was not charged despite allegedly being involved in the case as well.
Felicity allegedly paid $15,000 to get one of her daughters additional time on the SATs and have a proctor covertly correct her answers.
The couple had been on and off again for over 15 years before tying the knot in 1997.
They have two daughters together: Sophia Grace and Georgia Grace.
